my guess is that cis av again was doing its scans again while comp was sleeping.
Check ProgramData\Comodo\CisDumps for memory dumps or %USERPROFILE%\appdata\local\crashdumps folder. Also explain what you mean by

if the system is in sleep mode then nothing can be running, unless scanning was ongoing while computer was attempted to go into sleep.

well windows does things when comp is supposed to be sleeping.
nothing on dumps since ccleaner cleans those.
cis is supposed to start long virus scanning when comp has been idle long enuf but no idea how it determines idle if browser is open.
Idle being no user input such as mouse movements or key presses. Try latest RC and provide steps to replicate the issue if it still happens.

easier said than done since no idea what caused it and its only time that has appeared in windows events.
