[Solved]Unable to install/update CIS Premium 10

I have tried and TRIED to install CIS 10 onto a WinXP machine. It fails and reports an error message every time. The error message is “Failed to initialize the installer. Please check your internet connection and/or Internet Explorer connection settings. Error: 12157. An error occurred in the secure channel support.” I googled this error message but couldn’t find anything.

I have used Comodo on this machine for years without problems until now. I have followed the guidance on this forum for completely removing Comodo’s software, files and registries and performing a clean install of Comodo but this has made no difference.

I also tried using the offline installer file. I was able to install the software but it was then completely unable to update. It met with error messages every time and just couldn’t update anything.

I get the feeling that Comodo can’t access the internet for some reason despite the fact that I can access the internet with Firefox and any other software.

I also have the following security software installed and running in passive mode only. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot Search & Destroy 2, Spyware Blaster, Super Antispyware.

This may help.

Windows XP does not support newer https transport protocols (TLS 1.1/1.2) you need to change the update server to http://download.comodo.com in proxy and host settings link which can be found in general settings > updates. Comodo Internet Security Software Updates, Download Software Updates | COMODO

Because of that you would need to use the offline installers to install on XP instead of the online installers.

Thanks so much for the quick response. Your solution worked perfectly. I used the offline installer and changed update server setting as instructed. The update function now works normally. Thanks.
