RE: CIS_Setup_3.10.102363.531_XP_Vista_x32.exe
When I installed XPPro / SP2 (IT Pack) / SP3 (IT Pack). The Comodo FW caused the boot to hang forever on the Windows screen just before desktop. Did several clean installs to see if this was the case with install of XPPro / SP2 (IT Pack). It was. Right now I’m running XPPro / SP2 (IT pack) with Windows Firewall and Esset NOD 32 Antivirus. I really like Comodo - Comodo System Cleaner is great!!! I cannot endure more endless hours of reinstall because their formerly great Firewall now destroys my ability to reach the desktop when SP2 / SP3 are installed.
This pblm did not happen with Comodo Firewall Version 9.
I run PIII / 1 GHz / 512 rambus ram. 4 Internal HDDs and 3 external HDDs.
XPPro / SP2
Hello LF,
What other security software is running on that system ?
Looks like it’s conflicting, if you boot with /SOS can you see on what driver load it get’s stuck ?
boot with /SOS - How do I do this?
Comodo Firewall / Eset NOD 32 Antivirus
What was a severe pblm: after disabling the Comodo service - and also even after uninstalling the Comodo Firewall program - XP / SP3 and even XP / SP2 - would not boot beyond the Windows logo.
I need to know if I uninstall the pgm causing a pblm, that WinXPPro will boot to desktop.
My experience: upgraded version of the Comodo Firewall is not compatable with Windows XPPro.
I might create a system restore point and then - after XP / SP2 and the 119+ updates have been installled (as is the case right now) - reinstall XP3 / Comodo - with the goal of revertng to the restore point if all doesn’t work. Before I was installing / uninstalling the IT service packs for SP2 / SP3.
Stay tuned. Let’s see what happens.
I thought it was on the F8 startup menu but that’s for vista, for XP you need to edit the boot.ini file
You can however try to boot with boot logging by using the F8 option at startup.
Causes Windows to write a log of the boot to the file %SystemRoot%\Ntbtlog.txt.

I’m running both WinXP sp2 and sp3 on IT service packs without trouble, i would try to check if there is a conflict with ESET. If you uninstall that and install CIS after that does it still freeze ?
Hi Liquid Fusion.
The problem may not be CIS but ESET and Spk3 installment. Instruction to install Spk3 advises to install the pack with security programs completely shot off, better still not install yet. Since the only things connected to the PC are the monitor, keys and mouse, you do not need to be in the web.
I use XP pro_86 Spk3 and that is what I do every time I reinstall clean my system and others with XP.
This is an interesting article to install Spk3:

Hope it helps.
Thanks to the advice re: installing Comodo Firewall with Esset Turned OFF.
Working Soln Install Sequence:
XPPro / SP2 (IT) / MSFT Updates (Not SP3) / SP3 (IT) / Turn OFF antivirus / Comodo Firewall
Last week I tried installing only Comodo Firewall - without NOD32 antivirus - post sp3 and again when only sp2 was added on a clean XP Pro install. In each case Comodo Firewall version 10 froze the PC / hung the boot screen. Decided to plunge in again after downloading all MSFT updates after SP2 install. Created System restore point.
This install path worked fine:
Install XP Pro + sp2 service pack
Install XP Recovery Console - Start / Run: X:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons
Download all MSFT updates - NOT sp3
Create system restore point
Install new sp3 IT service pack download
Check Boot = OK: Esset NOD32 antivirus / Windows Firewall / PGP
Uncheck automatic service for PGP - Start / Run: (MSCONFIG) - set it to manual
Reboot PC
Create system restore point
Turn OFF Esset NOD32 (disable RT antivirus)
Install Comodo Firewall Version 10 + malware defense / No antivirus *****
Result = A+
Note: I have NOD32 which works great as antivirus and email protection*****
Realize I did not try installing Comodo Firewall Version 10 after SP2 + all MSFT updates.
Reason: I wanted to see if sp3 worked at all with my PC. That said, and seeing all was going great, I had to reinstall Comodo Firewall 10 - and was glad it fired up perfectly fine!!!
.:. Something in MSFT updates is necessary for SP3 / PGP / Comodo Firewall to all work together well. My PC is ancient. Hope this helps!!
:-TU thanks for the feedback.
Update - tried adding SyncToy 2.0 / .NET Framework 3.5.exe - to PC with XPPro / Sp2 / Updates / Sp3. Windows hung at boot again. Couldn’t launch system restore from safe mode. Had to reinstall XPPro all over again!!!
Bottom Line: NO SP3!!!
Life is much better without SP3 update!!! XpPro / Sp2 - Everything gets along without any pblms.
SyncToy demands .NET Framework 2.0.exe for install. Works great with XPPro / SP2 as the foundation.
I really can’t see the need for SP3. A little more speed in return for endless security freezes and refusals to boot Windows? I’ll stay with XP Pro / SP2 + updates - leave SP3 out of the game.
