Thank you very much for your effeorts to help us in translating Comodo Firewall into other languages.
There are a couple of recommendations you may need to care about while doing your translation:
When you open file for translation, you will see first column having English text to be translated with first cell named “English”.
You can add one column for each new language, with first cell as the name of the language itself. So you can add columns like “German”, “Italian”, etc. So one column for each language it should have one to one correspondence with English language column.
Understanding Certain Character Sequences
There are certain character sequences which appear in the middle on sentences:
There are some non-english tags/placeholders like "\b1 and \b0 or \b\fs13 and \b0. They are mostly related to the appearance of the text on the screen. The translated text should also be in between these tags wherever the english version is.
For example : “iexplore.exe is a \b\fs13 safe \b0 application” will appear as “iexplore.exe is a safe application”
You are going to see certain words starting with a “%” sign (%d, %s,%x,%u,%l). They are place holder for vairables. %s will be replaced with a string while CFW is running. Others are usually replaced with digits or single letters.
For example “%s is a safe application” can appear as “iexplore.exe is a safe application” where %s is replaced with iexplore.exe word.
While using translation utility, if you see english text inside translator dialog showing ‘\110’, please consider that as new line and translate that as ‘\n’. If you see the text in the grid, you will find it is mentioned as ‘\n’.
Wherever the character ‘&’ is found, it means on GUI this will appear as a menu/ button shortcut(pnemonic), so in translated text this should precede to appropriate character.
For example: “&Open…” which is in the right click menu of CFW tray, can be translated into Turkish like “&Ac…” where & character is preserved
The first column must always remain as the English
Try to be consistent in the word use:
Example: in English a “Application” word is used in different combinations though out the Comodo Firewall. If you translated “Application”, please make sure that you find all the locations “Application” is used and replace it with the selected word.
Check the correctness of the translation in regards of the text length:
Example: in English a “Advanced >>” button has enough space for 10 characters, then please try to find an appropriate word for this button with matching (or shorter) words count. The translation that is too long will not appear properly on the button.
Check the correctness of the translation in regards of the sentence length:
Example: in English a “Do not show any alerts for the applications certified by COMODO” sentence fits into the “Miscellanous” window. The translation that is too long will not fit properly in the window.
Thank you everyone who volunteered to help us in translating CFW into other languages.
