Skype

Have always had some trouble between CIS scan and Skype…but on latest update it seems to have gotten worse. If Skype is left on all sort of funny things seem to happen. I am running a very modified edition of vista, which seems to be very fast in comparison with 7 etc. As have siblings round the world, Skype is very important to me so am deliberating deleting CIS as such and just reinstalling the firewall…Any help will be appreciated !!

For your description, with lack of information about the problem,
the only response that you can get at this point is,
working unfunny and fine here.

Try to be specific.

If Skype is on, the computer crashes, will not shut down normally, and then on “restart normally” all is OK. Plus Comodo AV scan does not seem to finish as it normally does.

To see if CIS plays a role disable D+ by enabling Deactivate Defense+ permanently (Requires a system restart) and reboot.

The problem with the AV not finishing is likely caused by crashing of cmdagent.exe and would be worth a bug report.

What funny things? CIS have nothing to do with Skype. I was thinking like that as well. It’s Skype itself because it’s rubbish.

L-O-L ;D ;D ;D

Did as you suggested but results were worse. Scan locked at 1%. As posts show that elsewhere there is not a prob. I have tried to ascertain if I had missing or corrupted system file/s. My only results so far is that I do not have the file Dpcdll.dll . When I tried to download this I kept running into a lot of dodgy sites, so gave up for now and went back to an Image backup which I had made.
The error code is 0x800705aa. (Insufficient System Resources)
To recap somewhat, when Skype is on something wrong always happens, but this in itself seems very random (never the same !)
As this is a laptop I have no install disk so not easy to upgrade dll files
Ta for your help !!

Ta for reply. But in my part of the world the word "FUNNY"has different connotations. The 2 most common are 1. =comical (Yours I believe) & 2. = peculiar (Mine). Ob. mine was the latter !!!
Anyway thanks for making me smile & LOL to ya aussi

I was actually laughing as “clockwork” certainly has a sense of humour in this statement. You are correct that “Funny” has two connotations, but I think UNFUNNY only has one?

Anyways, thanks for your compliments.

You can enable D+ again as I understand that Skype is still acting funny with D+ disabled. Untick the setting and set the slider to Safe Mode. Or to the mode you are using.

Did restoring the image solve the dpcdll.dll problem?

In your topic start you are mentioning that you are using "a very modified version of Vista". Does that mean you installed a stripped version of Vista using a tool like vLite? That can cause problems with applications when they rely on Windows functionality that is not there and as such could be the source for the problems you are facing with Skype.

That being said. When did the problems with Skype start? Did they start after installing CIS?

Ta…but unfunny as a word is not used here…but did enjoy our little banter For now LOL again

This is the quote from clockwork

;D ;D ;D

All still the same. There is nothing really that unusual about Vista on my laptop…Just all unnecessary stuff gone and replaced with 3rd parties (all of these are very common)

Hi,

Did as you suggested but results were worse. Scan locked at 1%. As posts show that elsewhere there is not a prob.
Would it be possible for you to narrow down to what exact file he scanner locks? Is it always the same?
I have tried to ascertain if I had missing or corrupted system file/s.
Try this for checking, open an elevated command prompt. (start - type 'cmd' right click and launch with administrator priviliges - in command, type : sfc /scannow it will scan all system files and try to repair if possible. More information here
My only results so far is that I do not have the file Dpcdll.dll
You can download the file here (click on "Click Here to Download dpcdll.dll"). You will probably have to put it under 'local harddrive - windows - system 32'. Do NOT replace it if it already exists there, change the name of the existing dpcdll.dll to dpcdll.backup and then place the new version there !

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling skype ?

ps : can someone move this thread ? It’s in the wrong section

Have tried all of the above…but will as soon as have time download Dcpdll.dll and try and install…It probably is also on one of my old backup discs but that will take an awful long time as am not certain when this problem arose…but would guess at least 3 yrs ago…sorry for all the trouble…Ta much for your concern…Will keep you informed

Scan now stopping at C:\Win…\x86_Microsoft-windows-syssetup resource

With regard to the av scan freezing. If you have the time and energy please consider filing a bug report in the Bug Reports - CIS board following the format as described in FORMAT & GUIDE - just COPY/PASTE it!.

Reporting of bugs is strictly moderated to make sure Comodo gets clear bug reports. So, please make sure you closely follow protocol. That way your report will certainly be seen by Comodo staff.

Also follow How to determine which file is causing a manual scan to hang to determine what file was causing the scanner to be hung. Please add this information to your bug report.

About the problem with Skype. Did you try disabling D+ as I described in my previous post?

Hi
Do not know if you are still following this. But since last post, Comodo AV totally disintegrated, would not even run with Skype off. Had no choice but to uninstall both CIS and Skype. Skype reinstalled with no problems, but only reinstalled Comodo Firewall (and D +). Used MSE from then on as an AV. Picked MSE as thought it might interfere less with Defense +. As I use other AV’s for a tiered scanning effect, I believe this is probably OK. I also run CCE once a month.
Anyway all is going well at the moment, but will wait for some time before I reinstall CIS.
Would appreciate any views you might have on the matter.
Regards !!
