Simple Copy and Sync Backup Stalls

Hi,

Backup used to work OK but now I have two problems:

  1. Backup stalls at ‘Calculating the size’ of the backup
  2. I have a drive error: Exception Processing Message c0000013 - Windows No DisK.

The Log file shows that backup used to work and I have installed and reinstalled earlier and later version without any difference.

Backup, either in Sync or Copy mode, now stalls at ‘Calculating backup size…’ Following this I get the drive error.

I have gone to Disk Management and reformatted and activated the USB - IDE drive without any resolution.

I can read and write files to the backup USB drive, drive ‘K’, through windows Explorer.

The Backup drive is listed in Hardware Management and is on ‘green’ led and ‘red’ led when writing files to the drive from other programs.

Testing the backup in ‘Simple Copy’ setup works fine as from the log file;

The USB-IDE drive is in a 2.5" AVIO case with GL811E Chip Set with Toshiba MK4025GAS drive.

When I reinstalled the drive through Disk Management, deleted, repartitioned, formatted and activated it was identified correctly, by XP Pro SP3, as a Toshiba MK4025GAS drive with USB-IDE interface.

Motherboard is a AsRock P4i65G and I have moved the USB drive through the available USB ports with no difference in response from Comodo Backup.

There are no hardware errors showing in My Computer/Device manager/Hardware?

I am thinking of doing a restore to prior to 5/14/2008 to see if this helps.

Would appreciate any comments.

KH

Hi, Part 2

Tried to set the system drive, drive ‘H’, and then the second HDD, drive ‘I’, on the PC as the backup drive. Still no backup under any option yet ‘Test’ works fine in each case. Please note that COMODO Backup worked fine, before the 17/06/08, with the drives identified as drives ‘H’ and ‘I’.

I have checked the USB ports on the motherboard and set the USB drive on port 01 and keyboard on port 02, ports 3 - 6 are used by other pieces of gear, all of which were connected when Comodo Backup was working before 17/06/08

On PC clean boot the USB drive is identified OK under USB devices and the Toshiba HDD is listed as one of the hard drives on the system.

Will do a reinstall of XP Pro next week and install SP2 [I have the disk] but will dissable all MS auto updates.

IF any one has any other options I would like to hear them.

Hi, Part 3

3:39 AM AEST 19/06/08.

I have another database program, BookCat ver 8.53 with 1500 plus books listed.

Updated two entries and watched the ‘led’ on the backup USB drive.

Sure enough it flashed ‘red’ as BookCat updated the primary database file. I shut down the program and re-started opening up the libary database and the updated info for the two books was listed.

As a last try I did a Database Backup function from the programs file menu and BookCat wrote a ZIP file of book database, with time and date stamp, to the USB Backup drive, drive ‘I’.

What this means is that the USB drive would appear to be OK as another program can write to it in backup mode.

If anyone has a suggestion of how to get COMODO Backup working I would be thankful.

I am going to bed!

Regards,

KH.

Hi Lumpy2

This is a new one on me ;D

The only thing that hits me with this is that possibly the size of the backup is more than B/U can handle. I have done some pretty big ones but not with 1400 folders and 7000 files. This shouldn’t be a problem but it is the only thing I can think of at the time. There is a site you can check out for info on the error message.

Also try cleaning out your recently accessed documents and cached pages in case B/U is calling up a previously accessed page. Don’t know if this is a possibility or not but it seems to have helped others with programs not related to Comodo B/U.

I’m sorry that I have not been much help but will try to work on it some more. Let us know if there is any change.

Hi, John

Thanks for the post and interest in my situation.

I should also mention that I had MS auto update installed and on the 17th June 2008 MS installed Software Distribution 3.0. Although this is later than the date when Bachup stopped working (17-05-08) others had issues of the disk drive error, Exception Processing Message c0000013 - Windows No DisK, after the install of Software Distribution 2.0?

I realise that it is a lot of files to backup but previously Backup was used to image the drive folders selected and then set to Sync so that only new files were added. At that time the ‘image’ backup started at about 11Gb and 12000 plus files.

When SD3 was installed I lost all restore points prior to 17-06-08, the date SD3 was installed, and when I went back to that date lost all forward restore function as well? There is much comment about this on the net but no solution from Microsoft.

I did clean out document cache as per a post elswhere at COMODO and cleared all references through EClean.

I hope that Spybot or AdAware can find something that might be the issue otherwise it looks like a manual backup through Windows Explorer and reinstall of XP and programs. If I do this I will turn off MS update and go to SP2 which I have on disk. Everytning seemed to work Ok then.

I will also continue to support and use COMODO as I think that the problem is not with the software but somewhere in my setup that has been corrupted by malware or MS auto updates?

Will advise.

Hi, John,

Installed Karen’s Replicator Ver 3.5.12 and gave it a new directory to back up every 5 minuites to ‘K’ Retro backup drive. The program runs and does backup the dirtectory on changes. then I checked the drive and yes the modified files were backed up to the folder on ‘K’ drive [the USB 40Gb IDE Toshiba drive].

So the issue seems to be with COMODO Backup or its setup.

However I have noted a few things from looking at installed programs:

I have a strange entry in Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/ There is an entry there listed as 1.0 [no other name] and when properties is selected it is linked to the COMODO site? I have tried to uninstall ‘1.0’ but get told each time that the uninstall file for this program cannot be located?

As well as this COMODO AntiSpam 2005 although installed does not process Email?

I do not know if the two are related but I think that my only solution at this point is to reformat the System drive and re-install XP Pro clean onto the main HDD and load COMODO Backup and try to get it to do a backup under Word Pad?

Although it was not a problem before 17-05-08 the current system boot drive is identified as drive ‘H’ and the Data drive as drive ‘I’. I will try to get the System boot drive identified as ‘C’ with the Data drive as ‘D’.

If you, or anyone else reading this knows how to ensure that the System Boot drive is identified as drive ‘C’ I would appreciate hearing from them.

With thanks for your comments.

Regards,

Keith
