I use custom rule set for firewall and “restricted” for behavior blocker . I was told to not enable HIPS . Should i do so or is it pointless with my settings ? Chances are it will not make any difference.
Firewall is for network connection HIPS (host intrusion prevention system) is for your system itself.
HIPS will monitor for any suspicious activities for your operating system and for other applications, your firewall will not.
While you’re probably fine with your settings as defense+ will greatly limit anything with your behavior blocker settings, I’d have it enabled anyways as it doesn’t do any harm. It will monitor for any potentially suspicious activity.
There is always a circumstance (although rare) where the application doing suspicious activity is a known application in which the behavior blocker wouldn’t do anything but HIPS would probably notify you of the changes taking place.
Actually, with V 6.0 activating the HIPS is only necessary if you want more granular control over the applications. If you’re just worried about protecting your computer from malware leaving the HIPS disabled, and setting the Behavioral Blocker to Restricted, will protect you from all malware I am aware of.
Also leaving the HIPS checked will cause a small loss in performance and will also cause some more popups which you would have to answer.
Thus, unless you want granular control, with V 6.0 I would recommend disabling the HIPS and using only the Behavioral Blocker. For more information please read my article about How to Install Comodo Firewall.
Thank you.
