Service Backup Issue

Im using the backup v1.0.4.337 for our testing purpose and found that backing up the data to ZIP using different methods has different results.

For example, executing the backup using Backup Mode - Simple Move from the console works fine, ie. the source files are moved from source directory to destination directory.

But when the same Backup Job is executed via Service, the source files are copied instead of move! Service is login using a user id with administrator group rights.

Any one care to solve this issue?

I just did a test to try to reproduce your results and could not. It moved the files in both cases. The only difference is that I did not use a user id.

Do you have the active backup box checked in your backup? In your options do you have full backup or incremental backup checked?

I must admit this one has me completely puzzled.



On yr questions:-

  1. The Comodo Backup is installed in a server which is tied to a domain. Therefore, the Service is login as a domain user with Administrator rights.

  2. Active Backup is checked.

  3. It’s a FULL backup.

It’s getting me the headache as the source files are not move to the destination. Instead it was copied.

Is there a way for me to send u all the settings for my job?

If you export the registry key

HKLM\Software\ComodoGroup\Comodo Backup\Backup[b]Your Backup Job Name[/b]

this will contain all the settings for the backup job called “Your Backup Job Name”

Remember to backup your own registry keys before importing itman2000my’s exported key, as it will overwrite your existing backup job.

Just completed a test with your reg settings. I had to change the source and destination to folders on my computer and I unchecked the run after bat file and the email notify. Those were the only changes I made. The files were moved and not just copied.

You said this just happened with service backup I believe. Check your services and see if ComodoBackupService is running and on automatic. Is should be Cmdbksvc.exe. Other than that I don’t know where to turn next.

What i did after coming back from the holidays is to RE-INSTALL Comodo Backup again, but still a having the SAME issue.

I’m totally at wits end now! (:AGY) hahahaha…

If this is how, then i hv to find a solution, ie. to delete the file manually by means of creating a simple program!! :o

Unless u can provide a better logging in Comodo Backup so that we can zoom into the issues of why the files were not moved at all. This logging can be log via the system events!

If my understanding of move files, Backup at first copies the files to the destination and only when the copy function is succesfully done, then only the source files are deleted. Correct me if im wrong here! Therefore, i hv a feeling that file delete here hv security issue!

I re-read this entire thread to try to get an idea of what is wrong. The only difference is that you have Backup on a server tied to a domain. This in itself should not make the backup not work properly but when your settings were transferred to my backup all worked, and the backup was moved, not just copied.

I will PM panic and see if he can help us out again.



Since John mentioned that you have Backup on a server in a domain …

When you defined this backup job, is it correct you were logged in on your PC as a local PC adminstrator or equivalent?

Does this same login have equivalent rights on the PC/server that the files are stored on?
