'Scan for Known Applications' wizard

Any chance that a future release of the Comodo Personal Firewall will automatically ‘Scan for Known Applications’ upon it’s installation? Rather than to have to manually execute it, as it is now.

Curious,
Laurence

Hi,

This option is available when you install if you choose to do a manual setup instead of automatic.

Hi Mike,

Yes I know, thanks. But chances are most or many users installing CPF would follow the “Automatic configuration (recommended)”, rather than choose to do a “Manual configuration (for power users)” installation.

So wouldn’t having CPF self-initiate an automatic scan for known applications upon “Automatic configuration (recommended)” installation be a help in protecting end-users, especially those end users who are not power users or savvy in the firewall world? And this default setting would still allow the power users to easily go into the settings and tinker to their hearts content.

Just a thought.

Laurence

The default configuration uses “COMODO Certified Application Database” which does not require any scanning at all.

That Scan for known applications scans only some basic applications like svchost.exe or iexplore.exe for BASIC internet connectivity.

IF recommended setting is selected during the installation, CPF is completely suitable for newbies. Just install and sit-back. Even experts will be happy if they dont want to see unnecessary popups.

I always use that setting for example.

egemen, thank you for the explanation regarding what "Scan for Known Applications" actually does. Feels better already. :-)

Laurence

Is there a way to see the list of known applications that were scanned and deemed safe?

Thanks,

Dr Pete

For the scan for known applications, you can see them in application monitor after scanning finishes.

Sorry I wasn’t clear in my question.

How do we see what is in the database of “COMODO Certified Application Database”

Where is it located and can it be edited?

Thanks,

Dr Pete

Just to touch base on what egemen stated above, while I am not a newbie user on any firewalls, I use the auto setting as well. At first I thought oh boy, auto setting, now I have to configure every detail. Well, especially the new version, on auto, it passed every leak, firewall test out there. So in fact I sat back, let it configure and enjoy!

Cheers,

Paul

I could very securely configure a firewall, that is great, if it is your job and you have the time (-: , But even for an expert at home who just wants some simplicity. The auto option is great (Not that i have used COMODO, just i know it has to be good (:TNG) )
