restore ssd os drive with .cbu

A few weeks ago my SSD suffered some shock damage, requiring it to be replaced. I didn’t know what the problem was at the time, and took my desktop to my local PC repair shop. They replaced the SSD through the manufacturer’s warranty (OCZ Vertex btw) and reinstalled Windows 7, not knowing that I had a backup of the drive on one of my HDDs.

What I want to do is restore that image and regain access to all the programs I had installed. I didn’t put any important data on there, just programs.

When I go through all the steps to restore the image, Comodo says it can’t do it because one of the drives is being used, but that it can run on the next boot. OK. However, when I reboot, there is no restore process, and the OS wont load up. I have to reinstall Windows. Tried it twice to no avail.

I’m thinking what I need to do is install the OS onto a different HDD, run Comodo, and then change which drive is the primary or 1st drive in my bios… but I’m not sure.

Anyone have any advice?

Hi

Is there any error message displayed to determine why OS won’t load up?

Yes, you can do that.

Thanks

I recieved an error code 15 - drive in use or something - when I was trying to restore to the SSD while running off of the SSD. I have since installed to a HDD and have had a partial success with restoring the SSD to where I can view all the files, but I can’t boot off of it and I can’t run any of the programs. I tried setting my BIOS to AHCI and IDE but it didn’t make any difference. Running system repair through the windows disk (with ssd as primary) also didn’t work.

All of my data is on a different HDD, so if anyone has any crazy ideas let me hear them cuz I’m lost!

Windows 7 usually has 2 partitions, one is called System Reserved (with no drive letter) and one is the System Drive (C:).
The System Reserved drive must be the active partition to be able to boot.

Thanks
