Remaining useful life of v. 3.x?

I am a rather unsophisticated computer user who is quite content with the latest version 3.x that I am using and the antivirus software I’ve chosen. I don’t t know how to backup settings for a upgrade to v.4. and wouldn’t know how to replace them if I did.

In trying to reach a decision, I’ve read many posts in other forums of the difficulties others encounter doing this upgrade with programs that no longer work, error messages, non-functional systems etc. I’ve learned that v.4 contains functions I’ve tried in standalone forms and don’t like (sandboxes etc.). I am frankly most uneasy about the prospect of changing to something that seems so much more complex and less user friendly than what I have now.

Simply, will v.3.X of the Firewall continue to be effective against internet malware and for how long? Can one upgrade only the Firewall without also adding the other System components? Am I being given no choice except to upgrade to v.4 if I want to remain a Comodo user?

I’d advise that you upgrade to V4. You can disable the sandbox and it will act almost the same as V3. The difference is that problems in V3 will no longer be fixed.

Here’s what I would do:

  1. From what I understand even if you import your configuration from V3 it may slow you down with V4, so if that isn’t a big deal for you then I won’t worry about it.

  2. Uninstall CIS using Revo Uninstaller. Just start the program and wait until Comodo Internet Security is listed. Then choose to uninstall it using the moderate search option. After uninstalling it normally it will search and find any pieces left over. Delete all options in bold.

  3. Restart.

  4. Download the latest version of CIS from the website and install:

  5. Switch to proactive (or stay with the default) and disable the sandbox.

It should work fine.
