Re: When closing CFP actions are silently blocked w/o warning [273]

The bug/issue

  1. What you did: Right clicked Comodo in the taskbar clicked ‘Exit’

  2. What actually happened or you actually saw: Popup Window saying, 'Cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

  3. What you expected to happen or see: Should be able to exit the firewall and install applications.

  4. How you tried to fix it & what happened: Turn Comodo back on and you can install applications.

  5. Details (exact version) of any software involved with download link: Comodo Firewall 5

  6. Any other information you think may help us: Should be able to exit Comodo and install software, but you can’t. Once you exit Comodo it won’t let you install any application, they all return the same popup window.

Files appended

  1. Screenshots illustrating the bug: Please see attached image comodo.jpg

Your set-up

  1. CIS version, AV database version & configuration used: Comodo Firewall 5
  2. Whether you imported a configuration, if so from what version: No
  3. Defense+ and Sandbox OR Firewall security level: Paranoid Mode - Sandbox Disabled - (Safe Mode Proactive)
  4. OS version, service pack, no of bits, UAC setting, & account type: XP Pro SP2 - Admin Level Account
  5. Other security and utility software running: Avira 10
  6. Virtual machine used (Please do NOT use Virtual box): None

I just want to summarize by saying, that any application/exe I try to click on will not install if I shutdown Comodo. :frowning:

Were you in an Admin account or a standard user account when you tried this?
Also, since the Tray icon only links to the GUI of the software, once it is exited, the software itself has no means to communicate with you. It will block everything as a protective measure.
This I do not believe to be a bug, rather users require more information on this.

Yes. John is right - it’s CFP’s fail safe plus paranoid mode that’s doing this!

Perhaps we could agree that, when closing CFP, users should receive a warning that this will mean that all requests that normally would be asked will be denied and this may affect the normal operation of their system. It could have a ‘don’t say this again’ option

Would you (DasFOx) be happy with this going forward on that basis?

More broadly this raises the whole issue of the need for an ability to shut CIS down completely via say a Captcha dialog. That’s already a wish list item I think.

Best wishes

OK changed the title assuming you are happy with the re-statement, and moving to verified.

Please say if you don’t agree
