Re: The Everything Is Off-Topic Thread

Wot, no posts. Dear me!

I thought this was funny: https://forums.comodo.com/general-discussion-off-topic-anything-and-everything/osama-bin-laden-is-dead-t72168.0.html

Just further confirms my opinions that the Comodo Forums is continually ignoring the real world (well duh, bug reports are sooo much more interesting than the boring real world).

Hey, if someone nukes Australia, the mods might close the topic about it and say, “I don’t remember anyone talking about nukes before. Topic locked.”

The real world is not being ignored. But, these forums are simply not the place to discuss such subjects. We even tried that with some of your… erm… experimental topics (remember?) & none of them ended well.

If you don’t like it, go else where. There are plenty of other forums that allow, if not encourage, such discussion. I’m not sure why you feel the need to try & make these forums something they are not. But, thanks for confirming some opinions of my own anyway.

Well…the board title says: “General Discussion (off topic) Anything and everything…” Of course, that is excluding violations of the forum policy. But I see nothing against discussing an important someone’s death.

“We even tried that with some of your… erm… experimental topics (remember?) & none of them ended well.”

While I don’t remember those well, I think those topics were more about debates. Evolution vs. Creationism or Conservatives vs. Liberals.

“There are plenty of other forums that allow, if not encourage, such discussion.”

Most of those forums I’m a part of have a general learning toward certain “sides.” I just wanted some opinions from more average folks.

“I’m not sure why you feel the need to try & make these forums something they are not.”

Let’s see…I’m just posting in the off-topic board. I’m not forcing the entire forum to read something from the real world. I never heard that this board was specifically not about any real world subjects. And nothing is wrong with change, in itself.

Please Keep in mind that forum policy does apply everywhere;

There are topics we can talk about but when it comes against the forum policy it must be taken inside PM or Another place;

Very well :wink:

Once again, Jeremy… let’s discuss moderator decisions in public. Oh joy. You seem to be confused. All that I said in regards to the “real world” was that we were not ignoring it (the rest was you). You want to discuss a topic (which I had locked, obviously) because you found someone’s death “funny” and I believe that I made it abundantly clear that it would not be acceptable to discuss it here. If you like, I can ban you for a couple of weeks to give you a better perspective on the real world. Would that help?

...let's discuss moderator decisions in public.

That’s nice. Details about court decisions usually are released (after the decision is reached). Why not in public here too? :stuck_out_tongue:

All that I said in regards to the "real world" was that we were not ignoring it (the rest was you).

Locking a topic about an important person’s death seemed a bit like you wanted to ignore it. Other topics discussing some real-world subjects are usually ignored or closed, too.

You want to discuss a topic (which I had locked, obviously)

I would like if we could talk about the death, but I am discussing the thread itself, not the subject of the thread.

you found someone's death "funny"

Actually, I found your post amusing. It kind of said, “Thanks for info; don’t talk about it. Now bye.”

If you like, I can ban you for a couple of weeks to give you a better perspective on the real world. Would that help?

First, that seems a bit of an abuse of power (which isn’t anything new for mods, here and in other forums). If it is fine for mods to ban to give people a taste of “real life,” judges/juries can use the same justifications to execute someone to give them a better perspective on death.

Second, I wonder how this ban would help me get a better perspective on the real world. In fact, the only thing I could learn from it is to ignore the real world, which doesn’t always work out when you are caught unprepared.

I don’t know. But, it’s certainly worth a try.
