pum.hijack startmenu

I have two laptops: gateway NV59 and HP HDX16 that have windows 7 64 bit sp1, CIS version 5.10, Avast 7.01426, Malwarebytes 1.61.01400, Spysweeper 6.1.0.157 installed on them.

On both of these laptops I ran Malware bytes and it found the following on both:

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced|Start_ShowSearch (PUM.Hijack.StartMenu) → Bad: (0) Good: (1) → No action taken.

I have enclosed the log file.

I then did the following scans on the laptops:

Gateway:

Spysweeper full scan - nothing found
Avast - Full scan - nothing found
Panda Active Scan - scan finished without detection
CIS - nothing found

I would like to know why CIS did not find it and what is this? Is this a false malware. I have post to malwarebytes but to date no response. Therefore I would like to know from you if you are aware of such malware.

Your assistance is appreciated

Did you use a tool to remove the ‘search’ option from the startmenu?

On the HP HDX16 yes - I installed Flash Player which it came with McAfee Scanner. I deleted McAfee Scanner using Revo Uninstaller and then I did a scan with Malwarebytes.

On the Gateway - I do not remember.

So what do you think.

Thanks for your replies

Sorry I also forgot, I use CCLeaner to clean my system as well.

Thanks for your replies and help

It’s a change of settings, probably caused by a tool not malware.
As Malwarebytes states it has seen (0) bad and (1) good e.g. no malware on record changed this key, only 1 ‘good’ software did.
Nothing to worry about.
