Hi all… brand-new Comodo Firewall user, very impressed so far!
As a previous ZoneAlarm user, I’m having a bit of confusion with some of the pop-ups CPF is generating. The most frequent examples are “[Program] has modified the user interface of [another program]”. Here are two examples:
Microsoft Office Outlook is trying to act as a server
Application: OUTLOOK.EXE
Remote: IP : LISTEN PORT : 1104 - UDP
Acrobat.exe has modified the user interface of OUTLOOK.EXE by sending special Window messages. Any program trying to modify another program using this method may be a sign of trojan activity.
Spyware Doctor is trying to act as a server
Application: OUTLOOK.EXE
Remote: IP : LISTEN PORT : 1100 - UDP
Acrobat.exe has modified the user interface of swdoctor.exe by sending special Window messages. Any program trying to modify another program using this method may be a sign of trojan activity.
Why would Adobe Acrobat be modifying the user interfaces of Outlook and Spyware Doctor? What does that even mean?
In the case of Outlook, it runs fine and I approved checking email, etc. But as soon as Acrobat is open, CPF won’t allow Outlook to fetch email unless I approve the popup listed above.
I never saw messages like this one in ZA, and don’t understand it. After looking through the forums, I’m wondering if it’s related to the issue where you advised disabling the COM/OLE and Window Messages?
I’ve recently experienced a flood of ZA TrueVector Service errors on our home PC’s, causing all of them to hang repeatedly during bootup. PCMag’s review of CPF came at a perfect time; I had just removed ZA out of frustration and exhaustion. My wife had reached her patience limit, so I need to replace ZA with something she can use. She’s used to the ZA popups once in a while, but CPF popups like the ones above are confusing even me.
Anyway, thoughts or suggestions regarding these will be very much appreciated.
Kudos on a terrific product, and congrats on the PCMag Editor’s Choice!
Brett
