Are any files being sandboxed?
Also, which version of CIS do you have?
Hello, thanks for the reply. I released everything from the sandbox i think.I have version 5.0.163652.1142
Under “Computer Security Policy” in Defense+ are there any rules that have been created for Microsoft Works?
If it’s not this and no applications are being sandboxed then this is a very strange problem.
Under “Defense+ Settings” you didn’t check the box to “Block all unknown requests if the application is closed” did you? That could cause problems as well.
It’s probably not an antivirus issue: if so, the antivirus would alert when opening Works or when scanning (the last situation occurs with older versions of Microsoft Word, so why not…).
The culprit is more likely Defense+.
The only manner to circumvent what is actually blocked is, in my opinion:
-delete Microsoft from the trusted vendors.
-disable the sandbox.
-set defense+ to safe mode: uncheck everything in general settings, uncheck everything but code injection in executables monitoring, check everything in the monitoring tab.
-Now go the defense+ security strategy, and add a rule giving the path for Microsoft Works executable, set it to custom, open the access rights and set everything to ask.
Launch your spreadsheet and look to what happens: if being asked for Microsoft Works rules, allow, and if it works after that, end of the story.
If not, it means that the default permissions of other executables keep the job to be done.
The most classic culprits are explorer.exe and some system applications (rundll32, shell32.dll, svchost.exe…, but could be almost anything).
You would have in this last event to either check that Windows Operation System is permissive enough as a whole, either customize each of the Windows applications until you find the one(s) responsible of this blocking behaviour.
First i would like to thank CHIRON and BRUCINE for their help, i am not a computer expert by no means.CHIRON, under computer security policy there were 3 rules for microsoft works. these rules were deleted. problem now appears resolved.I must also state these rules were created by the antivirus itself.do you know why?
I must also state these rules were created by the antivirus itself.do you know why? While every computer is different, comodo is adapting to your computer so it can defend you.
under computer security policy there were 3 rules for microsoft works. these rules were deletedyou could also change it to "allowed"
These rules were created through the Defense+ component of the antivirus. Do you have the option to “Create rules for safe applications” selected in the Defense+ Settings. If so this could be what led to the problem.
