Once CIS installed, which it said was successful, it started checking for signature updates as it usually does. I let it run several minutes and no progress. I stopped that and tried to check for updates using the update button on CIS. It said checking for signature updates, but after 30 minutes there was no progress. Why is CIS not updating? Thanks for any help.
Hi rdunton,
See if the advice kindly posted by Dennis in the quote below helps.
Kind regards.
I don’t have any files in there. This is a brand new install of CIS on this computer. It was given to some friends of mine and they wanted me to get it working for them. It had McAfee Security Center on it, but the subscription for that had run out. I completely uninstalled McAfee, so it wouldn’t be interfering with the new install of CIS.
I couldn’t even find ProgramData in Windows XP. I went into a folder located in c:/Documents and Settings, where I found a folder called Application Data which had all the subfolders that were listed, but no files were there.
I am going to manually try to import the virus database and see if that works.
Hi rdunton,
Sorry my bad, I overlooked where you clearly stated XP in the title. :-[
C:\Documents and Settings.
It might be worth running the McAfee clean up tool.
