I’m experiencing problems with Microsoft office 2007 and Email Certificate. Here is the story:
Through firefox, i signed up at comodo for free certificate and activated the email certificate after I received an email. Then I Exported by doing a backup from firefox. I then opened Microsoft Office 2007, and went to Tools> Trust Center, and checked on Encrypt content and add digitial signature. I then imported the certificated that was backed up from firefox. Furthermore, after everything is done, i go and try to send a msg and this error comes up:
“Microsoft office had problems encyrpting this message because the following reciepts has missing or invalid certificates or conflicting or unsupported capablities” and there is no option for continue.
I was trying to figure it out for sometime, but still can’t. Anyone have any ideas?
If you wish to encrypt an email to someone you do it using recipients email certificate (digital ID), not yours.
so, unless you have the recipients email certificate (digital ID) you will get that message when trying to encrypt messages to someone whose certificate you do not have.

I have a similar problem with my Comodo Email Certificate in that Outlook 2007 gives me the following message if I try to sign a message using my new certificate: MICROSOFT OFFICE CANNOT SIGN OR ENCRYPT THIS MESSAGE BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO CERTIFICATES WHICH CAN BE USED TO SEND FROM THE EMAIL ADDRESS (my email). YOU CAN EITHER DO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: GET A NEW DIGITAL ID OR USE THE ACCOUNTS BUTTON TO SEND THE MESSAGES USING AN ACCOUNT YOU HAVE CERTIFICATES FOR.
I checked all the obvious bozo mistakes I could make. Yes, my certificate lists my correct email and I received the download link emailed to that email account. Yes I am trying to send from the same email account as the certificate was sent to. I chose all the default settings when I installed my certificate.
Same problem here. No joy with any digital ID on Vista w/Office 2007. Ironically, same certs worked simple and seamlessly on Mac OSX w/Mac Mail and on Fedora 6 w/Thunderbird.
Go figure, Microsloth making computers easier…
Funnier still, I had to disable all security features in both Vista and MSIE 7 to even acquire the certificate! LOL!!!
On Mac and Linux, security is robust and does not get in the way…
