problem with comodo and website like youtube

Hello,

I am a new user of comodo firewall V 6.0 and i have some problem while trying to browse internet.
When i go on "regular website, i have no problem, but when i go on something like youtube, mozilla firefox crash (it says that some scripts stop working) and i have to wait a looooong time before being able to do something, but i can’t read any video or some stuff like that.
And if i go on yahoo mail, the same thing happen (mozilla freeze for a while), but in this case after the freeze i am able to look at my email…

But if i go on internet explorer, those things does not happen.
I tried to clear the cache of firefox as said in an other post, but it did not help…

Does anyone have an idea ?

P.s : sorry for my english.

Are you using the Comodo DNS servers?

Well i think so… i should turn it off then ?

Edit : i turned off the comodo dns server and restart my computer, nothing changed…
(i followed these instructions Secure DNS for Windows Vista, DNS Setup Instructions - Comodo )

Does the same thing happen in other browsers? What version of FF are you using? Is your Flash Player up to date? Try a clean install of Flash after using the Flash uninstaller from this support page of Adobe.

What happens when you run Firefox with all extensions disabled (socalled Firefox safe mode; you can find in the start menu entry of Firefox)?

just curious is firefox being run inside kiosk or being run using the shortcut in the widget to be run virtualized?

if it is being virtualized or sandboxed i noticed that java isnt loaded and firefox will ask to activate it

Hello, sorry for late answer, had some stuff to do…

Does the same thing happen in other browsers?

No, on internet explorer everything run normaly ; for exemple if i take this website :
http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/2432-securite-proteger-un-ordinateur-contre-les-malwares

if i open it in firefox, FF freeze for like 5 minutes (or more) and after a while, firefox tell me that a script may be occuped or stopped and i have to disable it to be able to use again firefox :

(in this case) Script : http://connect.facebook.net/fr_FR/all.js#xfbml=1&appId=375175752544928:72

BUT, if i open this page on internet explorer, it’s instantanly there, no problem, no nothing !

And the same thing happen with youtube ; FF freeze, i have to disable the script and it’s ok (but this time i can’t look at the video), but in internet explorer, no problem…

What version of FF are you using?

18.0.2

Is your Flash Player up to date?

Everyone are up to date

Try a clean install of Flash after using the Flash uninstaller from this support page of Adobe.

Gonna try it, i’ll make a small edit after that.

What happens when you run Firefox with all extensions disabled (socalled Firefox safe mode; you can find in the start menu entry of Firefox)?

nothing change (maybe it get worse ; i have to wait a little more)

is firefox being run inside kiosk or being run using the shortcut in the widget to be run virtualized?

No i just launch firefox “normally”, that’s mean no kiosk and no sandbox

I don’t know if this can help but i used this to set up comodo

Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce these problems with CIS 6 and firefox 18.0.2. (even sandboxed) My first suggestion would be to either ‘Reset’ firefox:

Appmenu\Help\Troubleshooting Information\Reset

Or, manually create a new profile and see what happens.

Hello,

I have uninstall flash from firefox and by curiosity i just checked how everyone worked, and miracle ! i could load the webpage without any problem.

But after i reboot my computer and install flash again, the script error came back…

[at]Radaghast, i’m gonna try this right away !

[EDIT]

I made a new profile as described in your link, i tryied to start youtube, but it didn’t do anything… i had once again a script error…

I don’t know what happen, but it’s not logical… and this also happened on my other computer…

What exactly are the script messages about? If they come from the Visual C++ runtime on your Windows then make sure you have the latest versions of the Visuall C+ runtimes. You can find a list of them here: Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn .

Once you created your new profile, did you try accessing the problem sites before adding any extensions? Also, are you completely sure firefox is not being sandboxed?

Edit: One other thought. Go to Youtube and get the Unresponsive Script Warning, then go to:

Appmenu\Web Developer\Error Console

Look for errors, it should name the script responsible for the problem.

Hello, i have some good news and bad news…

As you know, i have cleaned the cache of firefox and i have tryied the safe mode without any success…
I just (re)installed visual c++ on my computer, but it didn’t help.

Also i checked if i weren’t runnig mozilla in a sandbox, and it seemed to be no.

@Radaghast, i have checked for errors, but i only had some warning, but no error :embarassed:

So i tryied to disable some plugin in firefox and i found that it was shockwave flash 11.5.502.146 who were the root of all problem… now i can look (finally) at youtube (and some other website) without any problem.

BUT i have now an other question : is there anything i could do to run this plugin without any problem ?

PS : i apologize to you guys ; i had the root of all my problem right in front my eyes, but i didn’t tryied it…

Without additional information it’s difficult to know why you’re seeing this problem. If it’s solely a firefox/flsah problem, you might try disabling hardware acceleration, see if it makes a difference:

Firefox\Appmenu\Options\Advanced\

Remove the check from - Use hardware Acceleration when available.

By the way you should update flash to 11.5.502.149

If the problem is being caused by an outside influence, such as CIS, we’ll have to go through the settings…

Since the problems seems to be with Flash please uninstall Flash, run the clean up tool from Adobe and then install the latest Flash player.

Hello, unfortunately i come with some bad news…

I have uninstalled flash player and installed it once again, nothing changed…

I really think it’s because of comodo, i have 2 computers, a desktop and a laptop, i have one day installed comodo one both of them and i had these script problem on both. And each time i had uninstalled comodo, firefox went better…

PS : i don’t know if it might help, but when i tried to install again flash player, i had some trouble because there where an error somewhere…

Can you provide some detail about the message you received when attempting to install flash?

Also, did you disable hardware acceleration as suggested in my earlier post? If you haven’t please try. It’s also worth disabling hardware acceleration in flash itself. One final thought:

  1. Navigate to either:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

  1. edit the file called mms.cfg
  2. Add a line to the file - ProtectedMode=0
  3. Save the file and restart.

Can you provide some detail about the message you received when attempting to install flash?

There where only a message telling “could not install flash player”, that’s all, there where no “error n°…” or something else. sorry for not being able to tell more about that
But i had to try 3 times in a row to be able to install flash.

Also, did you disable hardware acceleration as suggested in my earlier post?

yes, i also did it, but nothing changed…

Now with your last thought, i face to an other problem, i can’t find the protectedmode…

in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash, there’s nothing called “mms.cfg”

and in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash, the file is there, but i only have these option :

AutoUpdateDisable=0
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1

You need to add the line.

You need to add the line.

ooops… i must have read too fast… ok, now i try it and i will edit the post to tell you more.

[EDIT]

Yes ! it work !
As you tell me to do, i add the protectedmode, and now everything’s work !
I went on some page wich i had some problem before and they load normally !

Thank you very much for your help ! (and thanks to EricJH and kitmub !)
