PC freeze with enhanced protection mode enabled

TOPIC TITLE
This should summarise the issue. May be best to write it after drafting the issue report. A good title makes sure the right mods and the right devs look at the report

The bug/issue

  1. What you did: installed CFW 5.8.211697.2124 on an fresh install of windows
  2. What actually happened or you actually saw: the PC freeze randomly when launching applications; need to do hard reboot
  3. What you expected to happen or see: no freezing at all
  4. How you tried to fix it & what happened: disabled enhanced protection mode; for the moment the PC is no more freezing
  5. If its an application compatibility problem have you tried the application fixes here?: Have acted to resolve possible conflict with AVast AV (see below). Note AV module disabled in CIS.
  6. Details & exact version of any application (execpt CIS) involved with download link: windows task manager, windows search, opera 11.51
  7. Whether you can make the problem happen again, and if so exact steps to make it happen: just launch a application and sometimes the PC will freeze and sometimes no; never freeze with Comodo Dragon
  8. Any other information (eg your guess regarding the cause, with reasons):

Files appended. (Please zip unless screenshots).

  1. Screenshots illustrating the bug:
  2. Screenshots of related CIS event logs and the Defense+ Active Processes List:
  3. A CIS config report or file.
  4. Crash or freeze dump file:
  5. Screenshot of More~About page. Can be used instead of typed product and AV database version.

Your set-up

  1. CIS version, AV database version & configuration used: CFW 5.8.211697.2134
  2. a) Have you updated (without uninstall) from CIS 3 or 4: NO
    b) if so, have you tried a clean reinstall (without losing settings - if not please do)?:
  3. a) Have you imported a config from a previous version of CIS: NO
    b) if so, have U tried a standard config (without losing settings - if not please do)?:
  4. Have you made any other major changes to the default config? (eg ticked ‘block all unknown requests’, other egs here.): changed to proactive security config after install
  5. Defense+, Sandbox, Firewall & AV security levels:
D+= paranoid , gereral settings : only adaptive mode under low resources and enhanced protection mode enabled; execution control settings : everything enabled; tread unrecognized files as untrust; Monitoring settings : everything enabled
    Sandbox=enabled , Firewall = custom mode , AV = not pertinent
  6. OS version, service pack, number of bits, UAC setting, & account type: windows XP SP3 32bits; admin. account
  7. Other security and utility software installed: avast antivirus free; CFW files set in exception in avast and avast as installer/updater in D+
  8. Virtual machine used (Please do NOT use Virtual box): none

Edit : encounter the same problem on other 32bits machine. The installation goes welll, but as soon as I shifted to proactive instead of firewall security configuration, enhanced protection mode is then automatically enabled and the freezing starts.

I’ve been having the same problem, however I’m on 64 bit Windows 7 SP1. I also use Spyshelter, although even after disabling it I was still experiencing this problem.

Following enabling Enhanced Protection mode and restarting my computer it would appear Comodo would freeze whenever an alert is about to come up (almost as if it was having a conflict with itself). Everything freezes and becomes frustratingly unclickable, and there’s no alert to be seen - which I suspect is being suppressed. After waiting around 2+ minutes (which I think is around the same time it takes for the alert to automatically close?), everything is working fine again until another alert is about to come up.

After disabling Enhanced Protection mode everything has been working fine again. Shame. Hopefully this is easy to fix, or someone can point out where we’re going wrong.

Have made one minor amendment.

One request - could you add your User Access Control mode - may be important.

Only one so forwarding

Best wishes
