'on access/stateful'

I’ve done a few mins of researching this, forgive me if it’s right in front of my face, but I did look… I’m wondering if anyone can give me a 2 min breakdown of the options listed in the task bar menu. What’s the difference between stateful and on access? What’s ‘safe mode’? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Selecting the ‘Stateful’ option means CIS scans only files that have not been scanned since the last virus update - greatly improving the speed, relevancy and effectiveness of the scanning.

In Safe Mode CIS will make rules for program it is considering safe. The publisher may be on the My Trusted Software Vendors List, it is on the white list of safe applications or the user deemed it safe by placing the executable in My Own Safe Files,
