NTVDM CPU error since switching from ZA.

Hi guys (:WAV)

I’m new here, but just need a li’l help.
I decided to switch to Comodo firewall after encountering the MS Update and Zonealarm mess. The peeps on here: http://computerhaven.info/forum/default.aspx recommended I use Comodo.

However since installing removing ZA and installing Comodo I now get the following error message when booting up

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. Click “close” to close the application.

I am currently using Avira AntiVir, Spybot S&D and Javacools SpywarBlaster. On installation of Comodo I was unsure of which to install, Comodo Pro or the Basic Firewall, so I just accepted the default Comodo Pro.
Not sure if there’s something in the Pro install that’s conflicting with my other security apps.

Any ideas/advice?

Be sure you have completely removed Zone Alarm. See here.

I’m 100% sure that’s how I removed ZA.

I’m doing the complete search again just to make sure nothing is still hanging around.

P.S. Just finished the search. Nothing was found.

P.P.S Just now had to do the registry deletion process again. This time I looked for and deleted the keys manually to make sure they were gone.

I’ll let you know what happens.

Nope. Still getting that same error message. (:AGY)

I have noticed after another look in my registry that in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT there’s two keys called "Zone.ClientM and Zone.ClientM.1
Are these anything to do with Zonealarm, and can they be removed?

Wouldn’t be too sure it is Comodo related and may be not even to Zone Alarm: NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction - Google Search .

Thanks Eric. Google is where I’ve been doing a lot of research.

Still looking into it. Getting more help here than from the Zonealarm forums, anyway.

A lot of the answers I’ve found, via Google, all relate to a malware problem.
