Newbie problem: limited internet connection after installation!

Hi guys

I’ve heard good things about Comodo, and wanted to check it out since my current Antivirus Avira hasn’t got a firewall. But after installing Comodo Antivirus and Comodo Firewall I couldn’t connect to my network. I didn’t have any problems on my laptop where I’m still running Avira, so I figured I would try to uninstall my Comodo products and see if that caused the problem.
I’m still having problems which I never experienced before, so I’m suspecting Comodo for being the bad guy here. It’s uninstalled though, so I don’t really know what to do next :frowning:

Please help me connect to my network again…

Here’s some info:

  • Comodo Firewall Pro + Comodo Antivirus Beta 2.0
  • 5 Mbit LAN connection through a router
  • Operating system and Service Pack LevelWindows XP SP2
  • No other AV currently installed. Previously Avira

Hi 2kemon,

In most cases, you need to give svchost.exe acces to port 80,443,67,68 and 53 TCP/UDP for Windows Update to work, and to obtain an IP-adress. By the way, have you uninstalled CPF or not?

There you say you’ve uninstalled it, but here you say you haven’t:

Also you say you got Comodo Antivirus, but no AV installed?

Would help me to solve your problem if I knew if it’s installed or not
Anyways, try adding this rule to CPF(Open up Comodo->Secuirty->Application Monitor):

Application: C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe
Parent: C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe or ‘Skip parent check’

Action: Allow
Protocol: TCP or UDP
Direction: In/Out

Destination port:
A set of ports: 80,443,67,68,53

OR

Any

Hope that works.

Hi ragwing

Thank you for your reply.

I can see that my first post was confusing. Actually at the moment I havent got any firewall or antivirus installed. But I think I’ll re install Comodo AV and FW, and follow your instructions. I hope it will help and I’ll post the result.

thx again…

kind regards, 2kemon

THX A BUNCH!

It worked like a charm! I really appreciate it ragwing.
Being able to help without knowing what’s installed or not is quite cool

Now I’m a Comodo user and feeling safe!
