Newbie needs help with Comodo firewall and anti-vius software

I currently have Nod32 for my virus protection, and just need firewall protection. When CPF is installed, does it also install an active virus scanner? I guess what I’m after is that I don’t want two anti-virus programs running, just Nod32, and a firewall. Are there options when installing CPF to install a firewall only, or is this program only a firewall, and not a virus scanner as well.

Cheers

You can install the CIS beta 2 with only the firewall/D+ HIPS enabled if you don’t want the AV or toolbar. There are options shown on the installation screens to unselect them. Once you have done this, you can continue to update the firewall/D+ only with the later CIS versions. The firewall/D+ included in CIS is the latest version with updates to the standalone CFP3 3.0.25.

If you only want a firewall, you can just install the stand alone version of the firewall… the latest version is 3.0.25.378… This is just a firewall and it does not contain an active anti virus program, however it does contain an on demand virus scanner…

I hope this clears out a lot for you… Have a nice day

OK, I think I got it now. What I installed was

CFP_Setup_3.0.25.378_XP_Vista_x32.exe

I assume that is the stand alone firewall with just an “on demand” virus scanner as triple x pointed out?

Hey there and welcome to the forums (:HUG),

As long as it isn't smart security ;)

Well, it has no on-acces scanner, only on-demand as Triple X pointed out indeed :).

Nope, just straight NOD32, not the Smart Security package.

I just wanted to make sure I don’t have two anti-virus programs continuously scanning the computer for viruses. Its a slower older laptop so minimal is the word of the day

Interesting note, I had Kerio Personal Firewall installed before, and I installed Comodo and it actually uses less resources than Kerio did, and Kerio was a fairly “light” program!

Thanks for everyones help… (R)
