Need assistance please Katusha Trojan

Hello,

Every time I try to install Win Ultimate SP2 64 bit OS I get a warning from Comodo Firewall / AV saying it found the win.32 Katusha virus. I click on remove and for some reason it seem like it is still there and keeps alerting me of it presence.

I have run definition updates and also tried to search your forums to find a thread on the subject and I could not.

All I know is this is a nasty trojan and I just want to get rid of it.

Thank you.

I am going through this process right now.

I have been a loyal Comodo user for 4 years. I am curious to know why this is even an issue with Comodo software. I have never had any problems.

Hi there,

I’m eXPerience the writer of the guide you’re now following. Can you please complete it and post your hijackthis log back ?

Good luck,
eXp

Hi,

Id like to thank you for taking the time to help me here. I followed all your instructions. Did not fix anything with the Hijack Program.

Just on a side note, I want to let you know the only time I get warned about this virus is when I try to install Win Ult 64 bit SP2.

I also read in one of your posts that earlier versions of Java may be the culprit. I updated to the latest version. The only reason I use an older version is because of a particular program that I run for my soft switch. The software only works with ver 1.1

Here is the log for your review.

Hi,

i just checked your hijackthislog and I don’t see anything dangerous. there are however some files that you can remove as they have no use anymore.

Did the scanners you used report some infections ?

best regards,
eXp

The infections were deleted I am not sure if they were reported.

I will try to install SP2 again and let you know the results.

I just ran the MS SP 2 installer and I am getting the message again.

TrojWare.Win32.Trojan.Katusha.~E[at]104915147

I ran scan again and it didn’t find anything.

Location:

C:\Windows\winsxs\Temp\PendingRenames\45e37b644ae5ca0189030000280eec11.x86_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.0.6002.18005_none_9e50b396ca17ae07_gdiplus.dll_423f7010

When I try to access that directory it says I do not have permission and is Unable to display current owner.

Hi,

would you think it would be possible to upload that file to Virustotal ? Can you afterwards send me the link ?

thank you,
eXp

Which file? And where would I find it? Or are you talking about the hijackthis file.

Please upload this file : C:\Windows\winsxs\Temp\PendingRenames\45e37b644ae5ca0189030000280eec11.x86_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.0.6002.18005_none_9e50b396ca17ae07_gdiplus.dll_423f7010

On virustotal use choose → then navigate to the correct file

thank you,
eXp

It will not give me access to that folder (Pendingrenames). It says permission denied.

Current Owner is unknown.

ok the file seems to be a part of windows update whenever it is downloaded. I got permission and edited the security settings for the the folder. I will upload the file and post a link.

The only program that seems to find this windows installer file harmful is Comodo.

http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/cd52eb85403470cf1923d859e4a8b15a342ea287d817c4223279d56ee91a6e6e-1272317310

Can you please report this file as a false positive at the Comodo Submit Webpage.

This may be a false positive and not a legitimate infection.

I installed a program called “Cartes du Ciel” on my computer several months ago and have been using without any bother until now. Today when I tried to run it, I got a Comodo A/V alert that the executable file for this programs “ciel.exe” contained the “TrojWare.Win32.Trojan.Katusha.~E@104915147” virus.

I told Comodo to quarantine the file and then read this post indicating that Comodo has some kind of false positive issue with this virus.

I uninstalled Cartes du Ciel and reinstalled it and ran it again and got the same alert about Katusha. Should I be worried about this?

Bob

Can’t tell from that information whether you should be worried or not.

Can you please upload the file to Virustotal and post a link to the results.

Also, if you think it may be a false positive please upload it to the Comodo Malware/False-Positive Submission.

Ok, I uploaded the file “ciel.exe” to Virustotal and got the following links back:

http://www.virustotal.com/reanalisis.html?79a2395e8c462f7e1cc62cb1d9ef17ec08c643f0b7b74a845f3db8731d1aeef5-1274145833

I don’t know about on your computer, but at least on mine these results do not appear to be recent.

Did you upload it and choose for it to reanalyzed? If not can you please do that and then post that link.

For me right now I get that the MD5 for the first link is not found and that the file is not available to be analyzed for the second. If you could please re-upload these I’d appreciate it.

Here’s an example of what it should look like:
http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/0e44b7e833f4169b3cbf0cd5147018749fe039e0710db26f57725d6d72ff5124-1274028891

Ok, I uploaded it again and hit “reanalyze”.

Here’s the link.

http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/79a2395e8c462f7e1cc62cb1d9ef17ec08c643f0b7b74a845f3db8731d1aeef5-1274217075

Please note that I don’t get any hits when I scan this file with Comodo A/V. I only get an alert for this trojan when I run this file.

Bob

I also uploaded the associated “catalog.dll” file and hit Reanalyze. Results here:
