msimg32.dll CRITICAL

Yesterday I scan the XP SP3 32 Bits system with latest HitmanPro & it found & deleted msimg32.dll & restarted the system.

After restart nothing is working. I am getting an error for almost every program.

The error is msimg32.dll is not valid.

Did System Restore. But the prob remains.

What should I do now to get the system normal?

You can always try to download a new version of the .dll. There are several sites that let you download common .dll’s for free.

As what was it detected?

In the light of this post it could be a ‘dll load hijack’ issue

I fixed this prob.

Now I am getting another error.

Cryptographic services are not running.

This service is not there under services.

Any solution?

If it really is ZeroAccess I would start with a backup of my precious data, wipe the disk clean with a 0-ize run to make 100% sure every bit of the platter is turned to 0 I’d use a disk editor to verify, then start with a fresh install.

Those nasty rootkits are so bad they hide on disk outside the OS reach etc, no way to trust your machine after an infection.

Can you tell me how to solve this cryptographic services error message?

You can try to export the registry key from this service from a working system and import that on the defective one.
But as I said I wouldn’t trust a system that has had a rootkit, and certainly not one that kills the Cryptographic services, as all your encryption done by Windows could be compromised.

How can I export the registry key.

This system is xp 32 bit & I have another 7 64 bit.

This system is not a production system so no worry of malware.

Reinstalling Now…
