Microsoft Security Essentials (Codename "Morro")

Microsoft is to give away an a/v programme called Morro - link here:

it’s supposed to stop malware, so it should stop IE and Windows from running.

It’s also supposed to detect Scareware (fake antimalware progs.) - be a good thing for CIS to have.

Cis already detect many of those scareware i think

Yes it does

This ‘new’ AV is a replacement for their Live One-care that is discontinued.
Nothing really new.

That’s mean this free antivirus based on OneCare engine ?

Note : OneCare antivirus engine didn’t developed by Microsoft.
This Anti virus software was Gecad software but acquired by Microsoft.

Check this news story for more details.

Leaked: Microsoft Security Essentials (Codename “Morro”)

Edit:
Ronny said it was ok to post leaked programs as long as they aren’t illegal or are infected. These have worked and seem safe for me, and the people on the “secret” forum I got it from.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials (Morro) (This is a zipped package with the 32bit XP, 32bit Vista/Win7, and 64bit Vista/Win7 installers included.)

My MSE Video

My feellings tell me we are going to start seeing a lot of rouges and fake AV pages with this look!

Was i thinking the same… this is going to be a nice copycat…

Are you going to test it?

I may test it to see how good or ■■■■■■ it is, but the best place to look would be Matt from Remove-Malware.com he tends to test AV’s and other security products all the time!

Yea but it will be a while until mat gets a copy of it. i was talking about now.

Is this a final version ?
or still testing.

Still testing, Beta 1

The beta is now out, I’ve had a test on a VM and the detection rate isn’t very good, the GUI is based on Windows Defender, but it is incredibly light on resources.

Since you bumped this topic, I suppose I’ll post a link to the more current one: https://forums.comodo.com/anti_virusmalware_productsother_security_products/microsoft_security_essentials_codename_morro-t41377.0.html

Hi Guys

PCMag has reviewed the new Microsoft Anti-virus called Microsoft Security Essentials. Here is the link:

What do you think of the review? Should the well established security companies tremble with the prospect of a eight hundred pound Gorilla like Microsoft on their backs? Would you try it? I sure will. If you have to replace something to your own current security apparatus and replace it with something new would Microsoft security essentials be it?

More importantly, does Microsoft have your trust?

Peace. :a0

Looks like the topics were merged.

The problem is, my “instructing” post was at the top and so I gave a link to the topic for people who wanted MSE. Now they will have to look down several posts to find it…

Pishaw. I would never rely just on this. MSE is just a “plain AV”. We all (or most) know that AVs are outdated.
