Message: The network firewall is not functioning properly

Hello,
After reïnstalling it multiple times, I still get this message (The network firewall is not functioning properly) And diagnostics found problems the first time, but couldn’t repair them. All the other times it didn’t find anything.

Computer Specs:

  • OS: Windows XP Pro SP 3, 32 bit, Dutch version.
  • Firewall: COMODO 3.8.65951.477 (installed it with Defense+, but not with Safesurf)
  • Antivirus: Antivir 8.2.0.337
  • Previous Firewall: AVG 8.0

What can be the problem?

I attached the log from Diagnostics

Thanx!

Hallo Daan,

Can you check you network adapter settings and see if there is a Service called “Comodo internet security firewall driver” there ? somewhere around “file and printer sharing” and client for ms windows.

No, its not there…
See attachment for ss.

Okay try the following,

Add, Service, Have Disk, browse to c:\program files\comodo\comodo internet security

and select inspect.inf, now add this service and see if that works, if it’s added, press ok on all properties windows and restart.

Hey,
tryed to locate the file, but it isnt there.
My patch is C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall
i dont have a .inf on my comp

edit: I see i have put my questing in CIS, and i only have the firewall.
My bad!

No problem, but you have installed using the CIS package ? What version are you using ?

can you do a search for inspect.inf by using for example a command-box (start, uitvoeren, cmd [ENTER]).

dir inspect.sys /s

See if it’s somewhere on the disk

Firewall: COMODO 3.8.65951.477 (installed it with Defense+, but not with Safesurf)
I only downloaded the firewall version from Filehippo:

I already did a search for the inspect.inf file, but couldn’t find it.
(did it though normal Search… Start>Search>File or Folder)

Ill try ur way later.

Filehippo hosts a very old version:
Comodo Firewall 3.0.25.378

I would suggest to do a uninstall, reboot and download the latest version from here:

but i have the latest: 3.8.65951.477

okay just downloaded the installer again from ur site.
But still same problem and still i cant find the .inf file.

Well it’s not my site, I’m just a volunteer

I’ve been confused, this is the Vista procedure…

Can you open a command-box and type:

net start inspect [ENTER]

see if it’s already started ?

did it, but its not between my processes

It should go like this:
In a command box;

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>net start inspect [Press ENTER here] The requested service has already been started.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182.

Also please try this in a command-box:

C:>reg query hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect /s [Press ENTER here]

! REG.EXE VERSION 3.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect
Description REG_SZ COMODO Internet Security Firewall Driver
DisplayName REG_SZ COMODO Internet Security Firewall Driver
ErrorControl REG_DWORD 0x1
Group REG_SZ Streams Drivers
ImagePath REG_SZ System32\DRIVERS\inspect.sys
Start REG_DWORD 0x0
Type REG_DWORD 0x1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect\Enum
0 REG_SZ Root\LEGACY_INSPECT\0000
Count REG_DWORD 0x1
NextInstance REG_DWORD 0x1

Can you compare the output ?

get a error:

Error cant find registerykey or-value

I have created a FAQ for this problem, can you check to see how far that brings you ?

https://forums.comodo.com/empty-t36695.0.html

did you only past this in the command box ?

reg query hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\inspect /s

I’m not sure this is in the right place, but is a continuation of this post.

I am running Win 7 with Kaspersky AV.

I was getting the Network Firewall not working msg, even after turning off Win Firewall and Closing Kaspersky before installing.

I did the following,

(1) Go to Properties >> Compatibility >> Change Settings for all users - and change the compatibility to Windows Vista (Win 7 is along the lines of Vista)

(2) I had also ticked “Run as Administrator”.

Not sure which one of these two made it work.

Good luck

For Windows 7, Vista compatibility is needed yes.
Where exactly did you set “Vista Compatibility” on the CIS installer ?
