[Merged] CD 28.0.4.0 does not open in virtual mode in Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

Dragon 28.0.4.0 will not open in virtual mode in Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. Dragon 27.2.0.0 ran perfectly in virtual mode on the same system.

Symptoms: CD 28 opens and works perfectly in normal mode. If you switch to virtual mode the browser does not open (the task starts ok, but the browser window doesn’t open). This also happens when using the desktop icon to open CD in virtual mode. CD 28 will not run inside the virtual kiosk either. CD 27 ran perfectly in normal and virtual mode on the same system.

Steps taken: Uninstalled CD 28 and performed a clean reinstall. No change. Uninstalled CIS and performed a clean reinstall (then imported config). No change. Performed a clean reinstall of Windows 8 and all drivers and Windows updates, then a clean install of downloaded CIS and clean install of downloaded CD 28. No change. (No other software was installed at this time).

Dragon version: 28.0.4.0 (stable)

CIS version: 6.2.282872.2847 (stable)

Plugins/Themes: All default (no other software has been installed and no extension have been added).

Windows version: Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (inc all updates) Note not 8.1 preview

UAC Status: Enabled (default setting)

System drive: C:\ (Intel 520 series 120GB SSD)

Install path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Comodo\Dragon (default) - CIS installed in C:\Program Files\Comodo\Comodo Internet Security (default)

User privileges: Administrator

Google Chrome is not installed. Only Windows 8, all appropriate drivers, all Windows updates, latest CIS and Dragon 28 are installed.

The problem is repeatable and CD 28 always fails to start in virtual mode.
Mod edit: Added merged to the topic title, Captainsticks.

Takes 20 Minutes and 1 second to start, times verified with Killswitch using start time of main process and start time of child processes ^t 20 min 1 sec.
Win8, x64 Enterprise.

Same problem here with both Comodo Dragon and Google Chrome.

Is it possible that we could at least have an acknowledgement of this bug please? Even if it’s a Chromium issue and not something that Comodo can fix it would be nice to know that Comodo are at least aware of it.

I took the time and trouble to complete a properly formatted bug report as requested, I would at least like to have the bug acknowledged.

Many thanks.

As I’m not staff I can’t confirm anything but I’m pretty sure they are working on a fix, I expect next release to have this fixed.

Thank you Ronny, that’s much appreciated. You might want to pass on that it would be much appreciated if properly formatted bug reports could at least be acknowledged by Comodo. At the very least we could then be certain it’s not our ■■■■■ up!

That would indeed be very welcome…

Just updsted to 28.1.0.0., but the problem is still there. Takes forever to open Dragon in virtual mode. Please Comodo, answer this problem. :o

i think this is a problem with CIS not dragon so we will have to wait until the CIS team fixes the problem.

Would it help if I posted the bug report in the CIS forum do you think?

its already been reported

Please reply to that bug report and describe the symptoms you are experiencing. Also include any system information you believe may be helpful.

Thanks.

In us having the same problem. :embarassed:

The problem stems from the dragon.dll file

Fixred in last update of CIS, but now Vitual Kiosk do not open! LOL. really…

EDIT: OK, resetting the Sandbox fixed the problem. Works fine now.

BUG CRASH: Similar problem here, but it’s with Dragon 29.0.0.0 (not 28, should it be worth to create a new thread?), and CIS 6.3.294583.2937. Here is the scenario:

  1. Bought a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed and newly activate: new install

  2. Install some tools and softs: new install

  3. Install CIS and Dragon: new install

  4. … work …

  5. Open Dragon Virtual, its …
    Blue screen: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

  6. Reboot, view with BlueScreenView.exe:
    092813-26312-01.dmp 28-09-13 13:46:07 SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0x0000003b 00000000c0000005 fffff80076df1367 fffff8801bcd74d0 0000000000000000 ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+5a440 x64 ntoskrnl.exe+5a440 C:\windows\Minidump\092813-26312-01.dmp 8 15 9200 291,312 28-09-13 13:47:26
    ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+59769 fffff80076c80000 fffff800773cc000 0x0074c000 0x51a966cd 01-06-13 05:13:17

  7. Repeating … each launch of Dragon Virtual will ends with blue screen.

By the way, might not be the topic here, CIS Sanbox blocks some “old” programs that does not have signature, without notification. The result is only when we see that installation is missing and program does not work, after searching, and in Auto-sandbox we see it’s waiting approval from CIS. In this case, even I move BlueScreenView.exe to Trusted, it still can’t be launched. So I have to switch OFF the Auto-Sanbox to run BlueScreenView!

Anyone has the same issue?
