Hi everyone, i have had Comodo firewall installed for a few months but cannot get it to allow Limewire to connect properly on my computer even though i asked it to accept Limewire.
I have tried all the other download sites and have proved to my own satisfaction that limewire has the best choice and if like me you stick to MP3 or wma recordings you do not get bugs, however to get more music for MP3 i have had to disable Comodo and re install Windows Firewall on the premise that any firewall is better than none. Can anyone help me please as this is the only time i have had a problem with comodo.
I have tried switching off commodo, installing limewire then reconnecting commodo but still cannot connect to limewire whilst comodo firewall is enabled. Please help me sort this out.
What version of CFP do you use?
If V3, does Limewire work properly when firewall is disabled? (rightclick on icon in tray->firewall->disabled)
If V3, do you have D+ enabled?
Goodbrazer, the suggestion of disabling the firewall did not work when I was having the connection problem with Limewire. Even right clicking and shutting the firewall down completely would not allow a connection to the Limewire network. Like most installed firewalls, it seems that CPF’s application rules remain in effect as long as the product is still installed regardless of whether or not it is active or not.
What made it connect immediately was when I went to CPF’s interface/Firewall/Advanced/Network Security Policy and REMOVED the Limewire entry. Then relaunch Limewire and when prompted select “allow the request” then “allow” (DO NOT SELECT THE DEFAULT RECOMMENDED SETTING OF “treat this application as WEB BROWSER”. As Limewire is connecting the CPF will then ask if you want to “allow Limewire to receive a connection”, I once again selected “allow this request” and clicked “allow”.
The original CPF alert asking to allow with the default setting of “treat this application as WEB BROWSER” and then “allow” is where the trouble starts. That setting, it appears, will always block the incoming connection.
Then adjust the 2 created rules to “TCP and UDP” instead of IP and then allow only the incoming Limewire port. Finally the third rule “block&log/ip/in&out/any/any”.
To summarize: To properly and safely allow Limewire.exe it’s application rules should be…
1)allow/tcp&udp/in/any/any/any/Limewire’s incoming port (most likely 39980)
2)allow/tcp&udp/out/any/any/any/any
3)block&log/ip/in&out/any/any
This works well for me on several different XP machines that are behind a UPNP router with NO PORT FORWARDING RULES APPLIED AT ALL…
I made a little test: declared some of my programs “blocked” and set firewall to “disabled”. All of them connected to net without any problems (among them was eMule, a P2P client too, as you know).
That’s why i asked to check that variant (disable firewall through rightclick without any other actions like deleting entries) first of all.
If it won’t work, we’ll consider your remark. Thanks for it
PLEASE WOULD SOMEBODY TELL ME IN PLAIN ENGLISH STEP BY STEP HOW TO DO IT? I AM FED RIGHT UP WITH IT NOW, THERE SEEMS TO BE NOBODY TO CONTACT TO HELP ME OUT. WE ARE NOT ALL BILL GATES, I AM BARELY COMPUTER LITERATE AND HAVING EXREME PROBLEMS AS I STATED, EVEN NAVIGATING TROUGH THIS SITE IS UNECCESSARILY COMPLICATED. WHAT OR WHO OR EVEN WHERE ARE CFPs, AND HOW DO I GET THERE, WALK PERHAPS??
SORRY I AM FED RIGHT UP WITH THIS WHOLE BUSINESS. i TRIED DISABLING THE FIREWALL , ENABLING LIMEWIRE, AND RE ENABLING THE FIRE WALL THREE TIMES AND IT DIDNT WORK EVEN AFTER 2 REBOOTS. SURELY THERE IS A TECHNICAL SIDE THAT CAN SPEAK PROPERLY AND HELP ME. WILL COME BACK ON IN THE WEEK OR WHEN I GET TIME FOR THE NEXT LOAD OF GOBBLEDYGOOK.
A VERY VERY FED UP FREDDIEM.
Hi Goodbrazer, i have tried disabling the comodo firewall, i can only get limewire when the comodo is disabled firewall and defense both. CFP = Comodo Firewall Pro
D+ = Defense+
Maybe it’s worth to upgrade to the latest version of firewall (3.0.15.277) before continue. Download page.
Set up rules for Limewire (GUI->firewall->advanced->network security policy->add or edit limewire.exe):
To make it more clear how to understand them: action/protocol/direction/source address/destination address/source port/destination port.
What block global rules do you have? (GUI->firewall->advanced->network security policy->global rules)
