Leak Testing on a Mac with OS X

I just joined and have two questions which I’ll post separately.

First one:

Are there any leak tests available to test Mac firewalls. All the tests I have seen so far are .exe files.

G’day,

If you go to http://www.grc.com and follow the links to ShieldsUp, you can do an port scanning test. It can test all ports (up to 65535) and report whether they are showing as open closed or stealthed.

You should be aware that if you are behind a router, then the router is what is being tested, not the firewall on your Mac. To directly test the Mac using ShieldsUp, you need to port forward all ports to the local IP of your computer.

Hope this helps,
Ewen

Thanks Ewen,

I have used ShieldsUp on the Mac before, that’s fine. But as far as I know that only checks the firewall for incoming traffic, not out-going.
