Latest Version 2.3.5.62 ?

I just installed the latest 2.3.5.62 version and it turned off my Windows SP2 Firewall as designed, but the Windows Security Center does NOT recognize Comodo as the Firewall running in the pc.

It still shows my old McAfee Firewall as running and I have NO traces of McAfee in my pc !

Unless the Windows Management Instrumentation [WMI] is still using the old data from McAfee in the repository folder.

Is this allright that the WSC shows McAfee even though I know personally that it isn`t running but that the Comodo Firewall is running?

I do not want to attempt to delete the repository folder and re-boot and have windows attempt to re-build the folder if WSC does not recognize Comodo as a valid Firewall.

I have heard quite a few horror stories of folks deleting the repository folder contents in the past.

Thanks for any replys!

Hi Silverfox,
Did you try restarting WSC?

No, I have not tried stopping & re-starting the WSC [Windows Security Center] in WXP SP2.

Could you tell me where you find the service to stop it? It is not listed in Services thru the control panel or thru msconfig services or startup.

I believe you can disable WSC if you access it through Control Panel. There should be a link to Change the way Security Center alerts me. Uncheck everything, then exit Security Center. Then you go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools and hit Security Center. This should restart it.

Not sure if this would apply to you Silverfox but removing McAfee on my machine left behind a file that trys to connect to the internet.
If you have comodo setting to don’t show alerts for certified applications and its on the list it wont show up.
Going from memory here, its in the common folder and its a bunch of numbers ending with .exe
I had to put computer into safe mode to delete the file. Its in the McAfee folder in common files so if you have it should be easy to find.

You can stop WSC by doing the following:
Go to>run> type in “services.msc” without the quotes. You can see there if its running or not and set how you want.
I have noticed that in the control panel when you uncheck security center it doesn’t disable the service and its still running.

Hope this helps,

Dr Pete

I have already looked in the services.msc and their is nothing depicting WSC [Windows Security Center] Unless MS calls it another name I`m not familiar with in services.

I have already thoroughly cleaned everything out of my pc in relation to McAfee. All its folders, registry strings & data, ran all of McAfee`s cleaners found on their website, and did all this in safe mode, normal mode, and with system restore turned off and the WSC still recognizes McAfee as the firewall running instead of Comodo.

I think this is what your looking for.

I finally found it ! Thanks for the tip Wheelie4 !

Unfortunately turning the Security center off & back on did not rectify the problem.

I am running XPSP2 and Comodo Firewall registers with Windows Security Center, I am not nor have I ever run McAfee, though, well back when it was DOS based and free, but that was a looong time ago.

My Security center on XP Home SP2 also detects Comodo and I’ve never used McAfee on my current pc.

If you wish you could just tell Security center not to monitor firewall that you will monitor it yourself which in basicly disables firewall monitoring.

Hi Silverfox. You should not have any problems deleting the respository folder if you stop the WMI first. and then reboot your system and the folder will be rebuilt.
This is the fastest way I have found to correct this problem. I have done this on 5 systems. 3 with XP Pro and 2 with XP Home and have not had any problems as yet.

Good luck.

My problem is I have TWO repository folders each containg various data and I don`t know whether to delete BOTH folders are which one of them.

One of them is titled REPOSITORY and the other is titled REPOSITORY 001, and each one them does NOT contain the exact same data.
