Latest Update Stops Access To Yahoo Mail? (Please ignore; not a bug - JLT)

I can’t be sure of this so I wondered if anyone else was experiencing it? I applied an update yesterday (one that apparently didn’t require a restart - in fact there were two such updates during the day - and yes, they were announced by CIS itself, not from some dodgy e-mail!), and as far as I can tell, I have been unable to access Yahoo mail through Windows Live Mail since. Windows Live Mail reports

Unable to send or receive messages for the Yahoo account. The connection to the server has failed.

Server: ‘pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 10061

Please note that I havebeen using this mail program with the same settings for a few years now, so it’snot like the settings suddenly change (I did re-type the Yahoo account password in the account properties just in case).

However, also note that I did try disabling AntiVirus, Firewall and Defense+ all at the same time temporarily to see if they were the problem, and it made no difference, which is why I can’t be sure if it’s CIS - all I know is that the timing is awfully convenient.

I also rebooted my machine this morning, so it’s fresh and hasn’t got into some funny state.

There are no logged events in AntiVirus, Firewall or Defense+ for these failures.

Any ideas? If no-one can think of anything my next choice is going to have to be to try uninstalling CIS temporarily and see if that fixes it… but I don’t want to!

Unfortunately, the Live Mail error code is pretty generic and, in this case, quite useless. When you say you disabled the firewall, may I ask how this was done?

Out of interest, do you have any other mail accounts, other than Yahoo, that you can test, or could you try accessing the account via a different client…

Right-click tray icon, select appropriate menu entry and select Disabled from the sub-menu that pops open.

Good idea… I’ll change GMail to allow POP and try accessing that directly. Currently it forwards to Yahoo. I’ll get back to you.

OK, I apologise; GMail worked just fine, so Yahoo is the problem.

Sorry about that. Wish I’d thought of that myself.

No worries
