Kill All Internet Activity - can it be done?

Hi All,

Two questions actually - sorry to be a pain! :-[

Firstly: On my old ZoneAlarm firewall there was a ‘stop all internet activity’ panic button, which was quite useful. I’m running a big overnight external HD transfer and I’d like to keep my laptop internet-free whilst it’s eating all it’s RAM moving 75G of my files!!

Is there any such option on COMODO? If not, please read the above as a feature request in the next version.

Thanks

And SECONDLY…

When I get the systray pop-up alerts from COMODO, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to answer. At the moment, I’m ticking the ‘remember my answer’ box and then clicking the forward arrow to get to the next alert (ie 2 of 7, or whatever) and ticking the same box, and I keep going until I get to ‘n of n’ then click the ‘allow’ button. But but the ‘__ of n’ part keeps increasing whilst I’m clicking through and eventually increases to, usually, ‘__ of 20’, and it’s a race to get them all done. And sometimes, the box just disappears before I get a chance to answer them all. This can’t be right! ???

I’ve gone into Application Monitor and made sure the relative application had it’s permission set to ‘allow any’ for both protocols, and looked at Component Monitor as well to see if I could find any related components, but the same apps (for example, on-line poker) always throw up new alerts each time they’re started.

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong, as it’s driving me mad! (:AGY)

Thanks for your help guys!

Hey Miles,

If you do a right click on the system tray icon you can select BLOCK ALL, which terminates all inbound and outbound connections. Unfortunately this will also kill off IP traffic across your LAN. If you’re transferring across a LAN what you can do is temporarily move the “catch-all” block rule from the bottom of your rule list to the position under your LAN rules. This will just disable internet specific rules. If you’re just transferring data from one drive to another onthe same PC, selecting BLOCK ALL is the method of choice.

When you get a pop-up and it says “x of y” and “y” keeps increasing, this is almost always due to the one application repeatedly trying to gain access. Applications can be written to attempt access and, if not successful, keep trying until it gains access. This is what produces the ever increasing number of alerts. The firewall has blocked the initial access attempt and, while the pop-up is waiting for a response from you, the application keeps banging away trying to get out. Selecting REMEMBER and clicking ALLOW, allows all instances of that alert.

Hope all this helps,
Ewen
