also why do i have 2 java plugins. i have regular 32 bit java installed and the 64 bit but i don’t see why a 32 bit browser would pickup on a 64 bitplugin

If you click on the details (top right) you get to see the file location.
It might well be that this plugin is registered for Mozilla but Dragon also picks it up and loads it. Same happens e.g. with the WMP Plugin for Firefox also loads for CD.

I think so it will display it, not sure if it will ever use it though. I would disable it anyway.
Please make sure Jave is up2date, it is one of the most attacked plugins atm. and is vulnerable with no patch available Secunia - Java JRE

do you even need have for gmail, Facebook and basic browsing.

Java? nope if you don’t use I would recommend to uninstall it.
