Ever since installing the Comodo software I’ve had issues with my internet connection timing out every night, sometimes not even connecting at all. I’m not getting any error messages and I’ve gone through my Verizon rep and replaced my router and did all of the normal laptop stuff (cleared cache, cookies, temp files, rebooted, updated, etc) and nothing helps. Webpages time out and if I, for example, try to search for something in any search engine, it takes several minutes to finally go through if it does at all.
Another problem I’ve had is I cannot scroll up and down on a page using my laptop mouse screen pad anymore. I have checked the settings and the option is checked but it just stopped working the very night I had this software installed.
I can deal with the scroll issue but I can’t take the internet connection hiccups anymore. It’s only my laptop, all smart phones, tablets and other computers are fine. Advice?
What OS is running on your laptop? Are there any other security programs installed? If so which one(s) run in the background and which one(s) run on demand only? What version of CIS are you running? What type of connection are you on? Does it use a pppoe adapter?
As always make sure there are no leftovers of security programs you had installed in the past. A possible left over can cause all sort of “strange effects”. Please run clean up tools for all security programs you had in the past. A list can be found here at the Eset website: ESET Knowledgebase .
I’m running Windows 7 Home edition. I had my laptop serviced so when the PC tech came in he removed all other programs that might conflict with Comodo before installing it. I don’t download anything on my machine and I constantly go through the uninstall list to get rid of what I don’t need. I’m not sure what else to do… i’ve been waiting for webpages to load for almost half an hour now with no luck. It wasn’t like this before the Comodo install.
Does thie problem happen in all browsers you are using? Does this happen with a default installation of CIS?
Just to be on the safe side. Can you please make sure you are not using Comodo Secure DNS servers: Comodo Secure DNS - Windows Vista Settings | Comodo Internet Security v.6.3 . See if that brings a difference or not.
The problem with the scroll pad may be caused by Sandbox/HIPS. Can you post a screenshot of the D+ logs? I want to see if blocking of certain actions by scroll pad software plays a role. I assume there is additional software installed for your scroll pad.
The DNS was all clear to just for fun I put in the DNS numbers on the article you sent to me and there seems to be no difference. I’ve noticed this all started when Comodo was installed on my machine, I’m wondering if i can disable or uninstall it somehow and see if that helps but I don’t like not having it active.
I’m not sure what a D+ log is but I can get it to you if you tell me how.
What happens when you temporarily disable the firewall? That may help to determine whether it is involved. The easiest way to do so is by right clicking on the CIS icon in the systray and then under Firewall choose Disabled.
With D+ logs I mean the Defense + logs. You can access them from here.
