Since installing CIS (with SafeSurf) on my 2 PCs, I regularly find that when trying to access the Internet through IE7, Firefox and Opera, that they do not load and are shown as eg Internet Explorer cannot display the web page. After several attempts the page loads. This problem was NOT present prior to loading CIS. The problem continues even when CIS is removed. Furthermore, on both PCs I am unable to Restore them to points prior to CIS being loaded although restore points after installation are fully working.
I thought it might be my ISP causing the problem BUT when I run the Internet through my Wii (which obviously doesn’t have CIS) it has no problem accessing the same web pages.
Am I alone with this problem? Does anyone have a solution (other than rebooting from scratch and reloading XP and all my other software, which I obviously don’t want to do)
PS I have run McAfee’s Stinger on both PCs and there is no malware/virus present.
With a previous version of CFP, I had encountered something similar. All browsers that I tried wouldn’t connect, but my email program (a program similar to Outlook, called "Windows Live Mail) could receive emails. (Read more about it here.) Sadly, the only way I fixed it was with a reformat.
But I’m not positive if you have the exact same problem as I had.
Are you behind a router?
I have a similar issue occasionally with my setup. The problem is the router has crashed and needs a reset. This in turn requires a reset of my NIC card.
My router is a 3COMM 3CRWER200-75
(Reboot is overkill to reset these two).
I have a new Dlink DIR-825 on order which should resolve the problem.
Note too I also use Windows Live mail (beta).
Are you talking to me or StuWeth? If you are talking to me, I don’t think my case was a router problem, because I took the PC to a friends house without a router & it still didn’t work.
I’ve checked out the router and done a reset to no avail. Now contacting ISP to see if there is anything funny that they’ve done in this timeframe that might have caused the problem (NB They did say that they are in the process of rejigging their equipment in the exchange so that does seem a possibility). Hopefully its just a big coincidence that their outage coincided with the switch over to CIS.
I have a friend who tried to install CIS (both firewall and antivirus) on a Windows XP Pro SP3 computer. His computer easily meets the space and memory requirements for CIS installation. The OS is an OEM version that he bought and installed on his computer. The CIS installation caused his Internet signal to be weak or non-existent. The CIS Summary System Status always had a red circle with an X in it and stated that CIS was not working properly. After uninstalling CIS, his Internet connectivity was back to normal. For some reason, his CIS installation was missing most, if not all, of the firewall policy rules listed below that are in my CIS installation on a Vista Ultimate machine:
C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe Custom
Allow UDP In From IP In [123.123.0.2/255.255.255.0] To IP Any Where Source Port Is Any And Destination Port Is Any

We did not try adding each of these policy rules manually to his CIS installation. He has a number of Microsoft services disabled on his computer. Could some of these Microsoft services be necessary for the correct installation of CIS, and if so, which ones? We re-enabled the services that we thought might be relevant to CIS working properly and we even tried to install CIS in Safe Mode. None of those efforts made any difference. The red circle with the message that CIS is not working properly was still there and his Internet connectivity was still greatly diminished to the point that his browser would not load pages and would return an error message.
I have not run into anything like this with CIS before. I have a Windows XP Home SP3 computer and loaded CIS onto it without any problem at all with Internet connectivity or anything else. I can’t figure out the reason(s) why CIS won’t load and run properly on his machine. My computer is on a home network and his is connected directly to a DSL modem, but I don’t see why that would have any effect on this problem. He just wasn’t getting the CIS popup that a new network had been found.
I recently installed Comodo Internet Security ver 3.5 on my WinXp SP3 machine.
This machine is connected directly to a D-Link N Wireless Router via the ethernet cable.
Since installing CIS, I cannot access the internet or my home network at all. The network icon in the system tray says “Limited or no connectivity”.
It is defiinitely not the router or my ISP as 3 other pc’s all wireless have great connection to the LAN and WAN.
I cannot even access the router home page from my PC.
I have tried replacing the NIC and have subsequently had to re-activate WinXp however this did not solve the connectivity issue either. Also tried other ports on the router and this did not help either.
The IP Address for my PC is reserved on the Router setup.
I have also tried uninstalling CIS and can now navigate via Firefox to the Router homepage and setup pages, however I still cannot access the internet from this PC via IE7, Firefox 3.0x, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, weatherbug or any apps.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be the cause and solution
Thanks in advance.
