This is more a heads-up rather than a full bug report. I’ll try to get more details the next time it happens.
A couple of times now, CIS 6.3.297838.2953 has been unable to update its anti-virus signatures. The status bar in the “bug” was orange (updated needed) and I selected the General Task “Update”. The window showing that the Task was in progress appeared but it hung in the step “Check for signature updates”. The “View Connections” showed no outbound connections whatsoever, which leads me to believe it’s a problem in the updater software. Before and after I was able to use a browser (IceDragon, of course ) to access Web sites, so I don’t think it was a network problem.
After I rebooted the computer, though, CIS had no problems getting the most recent signature update.
The problem has not yet recurred. In the past the failure was observed after several days of not getting AV signature updates. I don’t expect it to happen for another week or so.
Please do a full reinstall of CIS, using the advice I provide in this topic. The reason I recommend this is that it sounds like something is not working correctly in CIS. Thus, doing a full reinstall, using the methods I recommend, will allow us to rule out issues related to problems with the install, and many other scenarios.
Also, it may be able to solve the problem for you. Therefore, please try the full reinstall and then let me know if the issues with updating the signatures continue.
I feel that this may be caused by a conflict with another software on the computer, or remnants of software. Can you please list all other security software you are using? Also, please list the security software which used to be on the computer, but is now removed.
Also, I will move this to the HELP section of the forum. I am doing this to increase the chances that someone who has experienced a problem similar to yours will be able to provide helpful advice. If it becomes obvious that there is now easy fix to this issue, I can move it back to the bug reporting board.
