Whenever I want to install a newer version of CIS, it says that CIS is already installed, it will ask you whether you want to uninstall or add/remove componets, yes or no. If I click yes, the program will be uninstalled and it doesn’t ask you whether you still want to retain the quarrantine list.
I have just uninstalled the older version and will need to restart the OS. I’m writing this now not having a firewall and it’s so dangerous. I have done a lot of settings especially in the antivirus scanner settings. I hope I don’t have to redo the settings all over again and I believe that my quarrantine list is lost forever. I am pretty upset. I strongly suggest that it can allow us to just install the newer version over the older one not having to uninstall it.
I would also like to comment on the antivirus settings, why should there be a size limit of the file to be scanned, time limit of how long it takes to scan the file, I believe because of this, it gives its competitors an edge over it. Whatever the case, I’m still thankful for you guys to let us use this CIS for free.
unfortunately you can’t just install newer CIS over the top, BUT why don’t just update your CIS instead of downloading & installing a new one? ???

i currenly don't have CIS on this comp at home, but i think you can edit the size (& time ???) limit.
don't know about the time limit, but imo the reason for size limitation is for efficiency.
most malware have small size, so CIS can simply skip the big files & accelerate the scanning process :-La
Greetings,
I believe we need a little clarification here.
We (the users) receive the “CIS update notification” that there is a “New Version available”. Your answer somewhat states that this update message is unnecessary as we can just “update the CIS”.
Are you saying that we do not need to upgrade as the “pop up message” says and that the automatic updates are actually updating all of the CIS to the newest versions, regardless of what installed version of CIS we are running? OR, are you saying that there is another way of upgrading CIS to the newest versions without installing the newer version? - If so, how would we do this specifically and is the pop up message more of a sales tactic to get people to upgrade to the pro version?
I am personally running ver 3.5 and also tried to upgrade to the newer version but having same issue that it will not let you install or update the new version without uninstalling the previous version. This brings up some serious issues. Uninstalling the previous ver will delete your settings- this is a huge pain to go back through and do it again- even in learning mode its a pain and too time consuming. A transparent upgrade that retains the user settings is what should be happening here- why has it not been setup that way? From my prospective, its not worth it to lose my settings and therefore will not attempt to upgrade unless you have some better options for me/us to try. :-La
If you are upgrading from 3.5, you will definitely need to uninstall first. CIS has changed drastically since then and the settings will not be compatible.
