I am trying to install the latest comodo firewall version on windows 7 32-bit. After installation which takes less than 5 secs, there is a crash/bug pop window telling me to report it and I didn’t as I was not connected. Then I restart and I click the icon and tells me there is something wrong and the diagnostic dialog pops up and I click ok and it then launches another installation file which then finally corrects the problem.
Now comodo firewall is running but this is an annoying problem and since the installation bug happened several times exactly the same way, it has somehow made me less sure of this firewall for protection as it seems to be riddled with bugs like this. It is running in the background but I am not sure if it has installed correctly at all. And the reason I reinstalled it was because it was acting weirdly and I was receiving 10s and 100s of alerts from just installing a simple application even though I had set it to give me one alert for an application and I would always click ‘Remember’. And the firewall was set on ‘safe mode’ and the Defence was set on ‘clean pc mode’.
In any case has anyone else encountered this problem? This has made me seriously look into another firewall.
It seems that the installer of Comodo Firewall does not work correctly in Windows 7 32 or 64 bit.
Windows 7 did give me the opportunity to re-install using the recommended settings. I assume it ran the installer in Windows XP mode.
It then installed correctly.
The only other bug that I can see so far is that the traffic animation in the tray does NOT work on my PC using Windows 7 even though it is checked in the settings.
It does seem to work on my laptop running Windows XP.
FOr starters a few basic questions about your setup. What other security programs do you have running in the background with CIS? What was your previous firewall?
When installing an application set Comodo to the installer/updater policy. That will get rid off the plethora of alerts installations will conjure up. Of course only apply this policy if you trust the program and know it is downloaded from a reputable source; but that speaks for its self…
My previous firewall was Windows 7 that is now turned off with the Comodo firewall activated.
The other security programs running in the background of my PC are as follows:
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i
SUPERAntiSpyware 4.33.1000
Ad Muncher 4.81
Note: The installation problem occurred on two different PC’s both running Windows 7. One was 32 bit while the other was 64 bit. A third PC running Windows XP had no installation problems or tray icon animation problems.
I tried disabling the three programs running in the background one by one and then disabling all of them together with no results.
It looks like Comodo Firewall has a problem running in Windows 7.
There is absolutely no animation on the tray icon even though it is checked to do so.
You wonder if it is just an animation problem or is it a protection problem.
I personally believe it is a minor animation problem in Windows 7 but you can be sure that there will be others that will have doubts about Comodo Firewall and change to another firewall program.
Note: The animation does work correctly in Windows XP with the same security programs running in the background on another PC.
