Import bookmarks from HTML file fails after 10 %

Hi *,

Comodo Dragon 26.2.2.0
Firefox 19.* - 21.0
Opera 12.10 - 12.15
Windows 7 professional 64 bit

#1 - I export bookmarks from Firefox to a html file: round about 22000+ bookmarks into file size 3.7 MB.
#2 - I export bookmarks from Opera to a html file: round about 22000+ bookmarks into file size 1.9 MB.
#3 - I try to import the Firefox bookmarks file into Comodo Dragon
#3/a - import stops after estimated 10 %
#3/b - only one of my 1st level bookmarks folders (under Firefox’ bookmarks toolbar folder) was imported.
#3/c - three other folders from 3rd level folders were imported, strangely without their upper folder.
#4 - I try to import the Opera bookmarks file into Comodo Dragon: with success!

Comodo Dragon seemingly shows a bug while importing large html bookmark files with a size of 3.7 MB, or the problem could be found within the structure of the Firefox bookmarks file. The Opera bookmarks html file, with the identical 22000+ bookmarks but smaller with only 1.9 MB correctly works.

Where is the difference / problem / bug in Comodo Dragon?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi and welcome KHelmsch_de,
Not intending to pass the buck, but to me this sounds like a possible bug with the way Firefox is exporting the bookmarks to a HTML file?

Is it possible for you to try and import the larger file into another browser to test the results?
Thank you.

To add to the captains reply, it may well be a size problem. I can import my firefox bookmarks without issue, but the file size is only 750KB. Have you tried a direct import from firefox, instead of using HTML?

Hi Radaghast,

I tried direct import (which I think, reads the bookmarks.json) a couple of release earlier: with failures.
But now, in v26.2.2.0, direct import works without any issue, even for my 22,000+ bookmarks.

Thank you very much for this hint!

Hi captainsticks,

I tried direct import (radaghast’s hint!) in a earlier release with failures.
But now, in v26.2.2.0, direct import works without any issue, even for my 22,000+ bookmarks.

Opera (all releases since 10+ years) is able to import html bookmarks exported by Firefox, Internet Explorer NEVER could do this (doesn’t matter, I use IE only under physical pressure  !).

So, it seems that Opera vs. Comodo Dragon handle bookmarks.html imports in different ways.

thank you very much for help & hints!

Hi KHelmsch_de,
Agreed there appears to be some unknown differences occurring.

!ot! I have been trying to get my head around 22,000+ bookmarks (WOW), I have enough trouble keeping track of my own which is still only in the hundreds.

Kind regards.
