I need help/Advice

I did a few test with GRC Shields up and PC Flank Internet Vulnerability

GRC Shields up results

Without your knowledge or explicit permission, the Windows networking technology which connects your computer to the Internet may be offering some or all of your computer’s data to the entire world at this very moment!

Shields UP! is now attempting to contact the Hidden Internet Server within your PC. It is likely that no one has told you that your own personal computer may now be functioning as an Internet Server with neither your knowledge nor your permission. And that it may be serving up all or many of your personal files for reading, writing, modification and even deletion by anyone, anywhere, on the Internet!

Solicited TCP Packets: RECEIVED (FAILED) — As detailed in the port report below, one or more of your system’s ports actively responded to our deliberate attempts to establish a connection. It is generally possible to increase your system’s security by hiding it from the probes of potentially hostile hackers. Please see the details presented by the specific port links below, as well as the various resources on this site, and in our extremely helpful and active user community.

Port Service Status
135 RPC Closed
Your computer has responded that this port exists but is currently closed to connections.

Port Service Status
137 NetBIOS Name Service Closed
Your computer has responded that this port exists but is currently closed to connections.

Port Service Status
138 NetBIOS Datagram Service Closed
Your computer has responded that this port exists but is currently closed to connections.

PC Flank results

We have scanned your system for open ports and for ports visible to others on the Internet. As a rule an open port means your computer is vulnerable to attacks by crackers. They gain access to your computer and its files through these open ports.

The test found visible port(s) on your system: 135, 137, 138, 139
Port Status Service Description
135 closed RPC Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is used in client/server applications based on MS Windows operating systems
137 closed NETBIOS Name Service NetBios is used to share files through your Network Neighborhood
138 closed NETBIOS Datagram Service NetBios is used to share files through your Network Neighborhood
139 closed NETBIOS Session Service NetBios is used to share files through your Network Neighborhood

Can someone on the forum help/advice on how to fix stealth those ports and how to unable Windows networking technology and Hidden Internet Server

How do you connect to the internet? Are you behind a router? If so, external tests that probe your ports are testing your router, not your software firewall.

In such a case, you would need to refer to your routers documentation, because no amount of adjustment to your software firewall will make any difference in the test.

I’m connected to the internet by wireless internet router but i don’t think my router has Netbios or RPC installed on it?

I think the settings on my computer are causing the problem i just don’t know which settings to change or if i can do it with comodo firewall

I think the Windows networking technology and Hidden Internet Server in my computer are causing ports 135 - 139 to be opened instead of it being stealth could this be true?

If you don’t need NetBios to share files and printers between computers on your LAN, you can disable it in your PC. To disable it :

For Windows XP
Right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties.
Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties
In the Components list, double-click Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab.
Choose disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK three times.

For Windows Vista
Right-click Network, and then click Properties.
Under Tasks, click Manage network connections.
Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties
In the Components list, double-click Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab.
Choose disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK three times.

For Windows 7
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Under Network and Internet, click View network status and tasks.
Click Change adapter settings.
Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
In the Components list, double-click Internet Protocol 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Advanced, and then click the WINS tab.
Choose disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK three times.

Disable also the TCP/IP NetBios Helper in the Windows Services.

He has the same amount of ports as your computer, logically. If 139 is open, it would be the port for “something specific”. No matter if your router has this function.

I did not see an “Open” in your summary.
Btw.

Some routers may include functions to use them as data storages for networks. These functions may have lead to the result you got about sending. Fix that.

An average router would prevent that unrequested traffic can pass to the computer. So these tests primary test your router.

And its allways a good thing to disable un-needed services. The userfriendlyness that makes windows so “easy” compared to linux, is the same reason why you have to worry about funny things to happen if you dont protect yourself.

I’ve disabled NetBios for LAN and on the router I don’t use the printer on my computer.

Alright i think i get it now i look into data storages for networks and see how to fix it if i can.

They are closed but isn’t it better if its stealth that’s my understanding so far or will i be alright anyway?

Alright i disabled any un-needed windows services from my computer

I’m on a home network with 6 other computers but I’ve set my Firewall to public for better security i don’t use the printer and i set Network Discovery off. I don’t understand the Hidden Internet Server and Windows networking technology issue i tried finding a solution for it but no success so far i was hoping someone here could help me
