I have a stupid question! Can a firewall work while the PC is turned off?

From my children’s homes, I wake my desktop pc with my laptop, utilizing a magic packet and forwarding the broadcast to an open port. Although unlikely that any thing malicious would ever access that port while it is waiting for the wake up call, information dealing with Wake on Wan usually mentions that this setup is not secure. So with the pc shutdown, could Comodo somehow set the port of choice to only accept my packet via some rule? Probably not, since the pc isn’t even on, correct? Thank You!

Hi ratchet,

You are correct. Somewhat unsafe - yes. Can’t be controlled by software firewall until it boots - yes.

The best solution would be to put the PC behind a router, from there you could control the incoming traffic.
Allowing only your specified IP’s and specified port in to the LAN.
