I cannot use the Comodo Firewall or CIS because despite I can connect with the ISP and dowload all updates of my Avira, etc., and even chat with Skype.
Anyway, I cannot navigate through http, i.e. I cannot access the websites at all. I use the diagnostic tool of Comodo, and it says that there is no problem. I consult Windows and it says “no problem, everything is OK”. I ask my ISP about that, and “everything is OK with the server and the connection”. But I cannot surf the sites!!!
I want to use Comodo at all costs, but instead I am using this ■■■■ Webroot desktop firewall.
No error code is generated too in order to pass that to you, because everything works fine according to Comodo, Windows and my ISP. I have tried everything: reset my router, repair my local network, etc., but no way.
My OS is Windows Vista 64 SP1 Ultimate updated with the latest service packs. I am a webmaster, so I am not a rookie regarding networking matters. Speak freely, please, and not as if I were “Joe User”, hehe. My local network is simply the connection between my router/broadband modem and my built-in Ethernet of the motherboard. All with wires, nothing wireless here.
Being able to update would suggest http is working. Apparently DNS resolving is working (unless the updater connects to a ip address with numbers and not to a url). My best guess for now would be that your browser didn’t get the proper settings. Did you try other browsers?
from Low to Medium.
Then, try opening your browser and connecting to a website and check your Firewall events(i think it’s called) afterwards to see if a new error message is created.
This will help if seeing what is wrong.
p.s. if you don’t see any errors on medium try increasing it to High. If High, again, doesn’t show you anything then go to Very High (you can always switch the setting back to low once, and if, your problem is solved). if no error is shown on the Very High setting, then I’m pretty sure this problem is not being caused by comodo firewall
I did that too, and nothing. No problem is detected.
The problem is being caused by Comodo because every time I uninstall it, I get access to the websites instantly. Next, I install Webroot Desktop Firewall and I continue to access the websites with no problem
I was thinking about a thing, but I guess it is not the problem: I have no swapping to disk on my Windows Vista 64 SP1 Ultimate, as I disabled it because of my 8 GB RAM. You know, I reduced the size first to the minimum (16 MB), then a reboot, and after that I got rid of all swapping (with another reboot, of course). But I think this is no problem because Webroot Desktop Firewall continues to work anyway. In fact, I tried Karpersky Security Suite and works fine too. Well, but I want Comodo as my firewall, get it?
I have also CMF installed as well as BOClean. I disabled them to see if they were conflicting with CIS, but no, the problem was still there. Afterwards I said to myself: Maybe Avira is being the problem. I uninstalled Avira and installed the Comodo Antivirus of the suite… to no avail. I had to come back to Avira and Webroot Desktop Firewall after all that hassle (:SAD)
I have also CMF installed as well as BOClean. I disabled them to see if they were conflicting with CIS, but no, the problem was still there.
wait, did you have both Comodo Internet Security(antivirus, firewall, proactive) AND Comodo Firewall running at the same time?
if not, when you had CIS running, did you try disabling separate components of it to see which of the 3 was causing the problem?
That’s impossible, friend for several reasons: The main one is that Comodo Firewal comes along with Comodo Antivirus now, as a part of CIS.
So, I have the latest CIS (that of December 3rd) and when I install it, uncheck the Antivirus option because I use Avira. Firewall + Proactive come together, if you install one you install the other despite the fact you can disable Proactive then. Anyway, I removed Avira in one of my tests, and used the entire CIS (i.e. the firewall + proactive + antivirus), but no way, the problem persisted.
Also, I disabled BOClean and CMF to see if these programs were conflicting Comodo firewall, but the problem persisted again.
OK, I know that I can do a last try disabling Proactive defense in Comodo Firewall… and possibly this is the problem, I don’t know… but having Proactive off is IMHO having a severely crippled firewall. Even if this were to resolve the problem, what’s the point of having CIS without Proactive defense working?
