How to update without scanning

I have installed Comodo Internet Security on an old Compaq portable that I don’t use frequently.
Every time I start the computer I am blocked for about 30 minutes. I think this is due to Comodo updating and scanning. I would like to update the virus database upon startup without scanning. How can I do this?

Untick “Automatically update virus database” under Virus Scanner Settings → Real-Time Scanning.

Eric,
If I do as you propose virus database will not be updated anymore. This is not what I want. I want to update virus database every time I start up but I don’t want to scan my computer every time I start up.

The computer is not scanning on start up with default settings. All the activity you see is from updating.

A different av program may be the best solution for your situation.
