You don’t have to get used to it. You did realize that it’s possible to edit the shortcuts?
Yes, but I didn’t find the “open link in new background tab” option. Maybe I should look again.
LA
Let me find it for you.
BTW, I found mouse gestures cool. I don’t need it because my mouse has 5 buttons 8) (the standard 2, middle scrolly, and 2 on the sides to go backwards and forward O0)
EDIT: I also found that the default CTRL + H hides Opera and minimizes to the taskbar.
What are you talking about, CTRL + H enables a panel with your history on the left side. ???
LA
Sometimes it depends on which area of the browsr you r currently on. Check the settings
Edit: never mind. I was on ■■■■■. It’s CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+H
thanks a bunch, i did not dig that deep yet on my part.
The other thing is that I tried out this option (ctrl + p in the forum) out of curiosity, I am very much used to navigate forums with the mouse. So, this issue won’t bother me much. (as of alt+s opening the feeds-menu… )
I didn’t realize it would minimize Opera to the tray as you wrote taskbar. Now I have that Opera icon in “Customize Notifications”, so I gotta run NTREGOPT to clean up.
LA
sorry. typo. another mistake i made today (:SHY)
You did know that CCleaner has the option to delete the tray notifications cache?
Yes, but it doesn’t work (not even rebooting). I’ll run NTREGOPT later (which will also remind me of my registry file size which is way too big; 11 MB after defrag).

How to remove these particular context menu items when (part of) a link is highlighted?
There are only a few items I need and “Copy to Note” is definitely not one of them. I don’t even use or know what “Note” is.
I know it’s in the standard_menu (1).ini file, but exactly which spot?

I found this in C:\Program Files\Opera\defaults\standard_menu.ini
LA
EDIT: it worked, I removed a couple of things, but I didn’t find e.g. “Send Link By Mail” which appears when you right click on a page (just the background, no link or text).

Thanks. I can tell it’s the right one just based on the heading. Will investigate tonight.
K. Weird that I didn’t have the [link Selection Popup Menu] section in there. I wonder if I deleted it long ago or someting happened when I had the mess up with between the Standard and Classic Installer incident. So I created that section with just these 2 lines per my preference to fix it:
Item, 50872=Copy
Submenu, 291920, Internal Search With
There’s something I discovered: the Translate With function doesn’t work anymore, but I believe it’s due to our XP Slimming. LA, does your context menu on this work?
Rendering Quality: Smoothness of curves in SVG display. Lower value = higher quality. Default Value = 25I set mine to 0, thinking this will yield better quality. Not sure if there's any difference. Anyone care to explain?
Turbo Mode: Draw images instantly. Default Value = 1. Can also be configed in Preferences > Advanced > Browsing. Here's a question: if this is the same option as in "Redraw instantly", why is it that by default Turbo Mode is enabled, yet the Loading option is Redraw after 1 second? That doesn't make any sense because that would mean they contradict each other.
Update on this: I found it was just a bad description on that page. The actual name of the setting in Opera:config that controls the redraw loading is First Update Delay. I found that if I set it to Redraw Instantly, that this forum blinks for a split second between pages (Javascript on based on these tests), while the default 1 second redraw doesn’t have the blinks :-TU. So I guess this means I have no clue what Turbo Mode is.
Update Delay: Delay between reflows in milliseconds. Default Value = 200.I changed it to 0. Not sure if it's the placebo effect again, but even after switching it back to 200, pages are not instant fast.
Update on this: I found that this setting actually controls the speed of loading content, most notably large pictures. Or more accurately, it determines how much of a “chunk” of that picture is loaded per millisecond. As usual, those with slower internet connections notice these things more. Since I hate large chunks going by the default 200 value, 0 seems to suit me. I haven’t noticed any CPU usage difference between the two.
Also, does anybody know how to remove the little icon in front of the URL in the addy bar?

It works here, goes to Yahoo Babel Fish.
Anyone care to explain?
I’m not sure, but unlike all the other image formats supported by Opera, SVG is vectorial, so I guess this tells Opera how finely or how coarsely to draw SVGs pixel by pixel?
So I guess this means I have no clue what Turbo Mode is.
Isn’t Turbo Mode for images, and “redraw” for styled HTML layout rendering? I remember that the progress bar shows progress in rendering the whole document and in downloading the images separately.
Also, does anybody know how to remove the little icon in front of the URL in the addy bar?
All broswers show that, don’t they? Like the white C on a red square for forums.comodo.com? You can remove it in “tools > advanced > browsing > page icons”, but that will only make Opera show a default icon of a small grey sheet of paper.
As expected, it’s because of slimming down XP :-[
Also what I was afraid. Yes, that’s the best I can get it down to :(.
Thanks for reply.
I never use the translate feature. But I have Spanish, English, Spanish-English, English-Spanish, etc. dictionaries as search engines with short and intuitive keywords assigned.
(:NRD)
No, it doesn’t work. :-\ Can you recall the last time it worked for you?
So that’s why I don’t have any icons - I enabled the option just to get rid of icons in the favourites menu.
Sure we have removed all kind of language support (almost), but at this point, I have no idea what could cause the loss of the translation functionality…
BTW I see that 9.51 beta has been released. Some crash issues have been fixed, not sure that any of them address my crashes (except the Feed function, which I’ve disabled now).
* Fixed crash on Yahoo! Mail. * Fixed a crash when clicking the feeds button. * Fixed a crash when installing Shockwave Player 11. * Fixed some issues with the search engines when upgrading from 9.2x: it is now possible again to edit the Google search. * Fixed a leak when printing or in print preview. * Fixed a GDI handle leak in the transfers window on Windows. * Fixed thread expanding in Mail when receiving new messages * Fixed some issues with subscription to IMAP folders. * Fixed a too zealous reconnection of the IRC client. * Fixed "reuse current tab" feature in speed dial on Mac. * Finetuned some issues in the new skin.
!ot!

Unfortunately, it’s been a while since I used it, but if you also have the same it only reinforces my suspicion that it’s due to our slimming question because there other programs I use when in the past would’ve been able to open a Opera tab/page and loaded their website. Those functions now do nothing :(. Oh well. At least they are not that important.
Update: Found the culprit: the options in Opera have somehow been modified (probably due to myself when cleaning the registry or something…but one would think reinstalling Opera would fix it). In the advanced options/prefs go to Programs and click Details button. Protocols handled by Opera should at least include: http, https, ftp (I don’t know what the defaults are). I don’t know about the rest, but this certain fixed the inability to open Opera tabs/pages by other programs. The translation thingy is still busted though.
You willing to beta test it? :a0. Josh opened a new thread on 9.51 beta, so we can further discuss.
Well done on one hand (though I can still make e.g. 7-Zip open a tab without adding any of those three protocols), LOL on the other hand. As I added http, https and ftp, I got this Opera error message when quoting you: “No registered application for this action”. ???
I’m not sure. If I do it, I’ll post in the thread, but most likely I’ll wait for a final 9.51.
LA
Wow :o. You have the opposite problem. I only had that error when, for example, a .torrent file was in Opera’s Download list that contains all the extension and applications and there’s no default program associated with that extension to open it. All I had to do was register .torrent files within uTorrent to fix. I could’ve also open Explorer’s file associations to manually do or right-click on a .torrent file to change it there with “Open With…”.
