How can i restore/remove right click "Scan with Comodo Antivirus" context-menu

Hi everyone,

First of all, I used COMODO firewall since the version 2 and now using CIS 3.5 Final. It is a superior Internet Security Suite. Thank you for your hard work.

Now, I just noticed that the “scan with COMODO antivirus” (I believe that what it was) it’s missing from the right click menu. Is it me or it was removed?

Before posting I did do search here on forum but couldn’t find anything about this.

Thank you in advanced.

Hi SuperUser

Welcome to the forums

If you updated to CIS rather than uninstall and reinstall it will not install all the components of CAVS. Try a clean uninstall and re-install saving your configuration if you wish and importing it into V3.5. Try that and let us know if that brings back the context menu item.

John

Thank you for a quick reply. I believe I did a clean install since that what was suggested in one of the posts. I will try a clean reinstall one more time since it was possible for something to go wrong during installation.

Thank you again. I will report back in a few minutes.

[EDIT] Unfortunately didn’t work. I did the following:

  1. Uninstalled CIS.
  2. Run CRC.
  3. Defraged the hard drive.
  4. Installed CIS.

[EDIT 2] Just updated another laptop which also runs XP Pro SP2 without any problems. The right click scan is present in the menu. Also there is no problem on my desktop which runs XP Pro SP3.

The problem seams to be on this laptop only.

As it is only on this computer and all your other computers are working fine could please post a bug report Here please with full details of your computer OS (XP, Vista, SP?, x32, x64) and also any other security programs that you are runing.
Thank you
Dennis
EDIT And also a copy of your last post showing the tasks you have done.

Hi Dennis2,

I figured out what was wrong. Last night I was trying also to install service pack 3 and I was getting an “access denied” error on the same laptop. Whatever I would do the SP3 would refuse to install. After doing a search I found out on Microsoft’s site that some registry keys can become restricted by certain programs that change the system access control lists (SACL) in the Registry so that administrator accounts cannot alter them. I thought that could be the reason preventing also the CIS from modifying registry properly and thus resulting in missing “scan with Comodo Antivirus” from the right click menu. I was right.

The workaround was to reset the registry and file permissions which is described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377 in Advanced Troubleshooting section. After doing so I uninstalled the CIS and then reinstalled it. The “scan with Comodo Antivirus” was back.

I hope that this will help anyone that has or will have a similar problem.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you for posting back with the way to solve the problem.
I’ll close this topic now. If you should encounter further problems, PM an online moderator with a link to this topic so that he can open it.

You can try this in admin account:

regsvr32 “%ProgramFiles%\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cavshell.dll”

That should do the trick.

Perfect, Ronny.

Remove annoying or non-useful programs from right click menu

Please only do this if you are comfortable with editing the registry. Breaking the registry can crash your whole system.

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type in regedit and click ENTER
  4. Browse to the following:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

(This is where programs attach to the right click menu.)

  1. You simply delete or export then delete the keys you do not want.

Ehem, Sticky this?

!ot! Eheeemm… yes it’s a lot more beautiful… (:LOV) !ot!
