Eventually I pinned the high CPU usage by process System to Comodo Firewall.
When I turned off the firewall, the process System no longer took up half of the CPU cycle.
Does anyone know what is causing this?

What version are you using? If you are using an older version this could be the cause of this problem.
latest version.
It seems that constant log writing is a problem. I guess.
