Help with numerous BSOD after first install

I’d removed Kaspersky Total Security after weeks of BSOD, their error according to my WhoCrashed program.

Then I installed Comodo. Then I did a restart and never got past BSOD after BSOD … Finally I was able to get to a restore-point and bring it up to a point before I used Revo-Uninstaller-Pro to remove KTS.

It was tough and go as I tried to get back into the system.

So my question is should I try the uninstall again then re-install Comodo?
Are there ahy precautions I might look into before doing that ‘re-start’ LOL ??

Start with removing Kaspersky using their removal tool linked here: [KB146] Uninstallers (removal tools) for common Windows antivirus software . That way there should no longer be traces of Kaspersky around that could interfere when installing CIS. Make sure to reboot after the Kaspersky removal tool before installing CIS.

Then start from there. Do you have other security programs installed? Which ones run on demand and which one(s) run in the background?

Just the Microsoft Windows two. >:-D

Did you run the Kaspersky clean up tool? It’s an important step because in the case there were one or more drivers, services or executables left behind by the uninstaller of Kaspersky this could cause instability.

If you had installed other security programs in the past run clean up tools for them just to be on the safe side or check with Autoruns if there are left overs.

Cleaning possible left overs creates a stable starting point for installing CIS and further investigation.

Yes. All was removed.

Installed CIS

Now it’s about 17% through full-scan.

caught a “ReImage.exe” potential problem … I googled it … certainly annoyance-ware but I can’t see that it’s a threat … but didn’t really read much more on it … certainly was unhappy anyway that KTS hadn’t seen it before.

CIS is flagging a huge portion of my JTSDK/WSJTx library and folders … just a software development set of tools for a hobby that I use to build latest updates of the continually developing program.

I tried to see if I could stop CIS from scanning that but there was no obvious way now that she’s running.

When it comes to annoyance-ware, potentially unwanted programs or applications scanners may have different opinions. WHen it is just the installer sitting on the disk in the temp folder without trace of it running or being installed it’s harmless.

Those are false positives you could submit it in AV False Positive/Negative Detection Reporting board. But it is probably best to exclude those folders from the AV.
