Hardware/driver incompatibility?

Just built a new computer with the following:

  • Asus M4A79XTD EVO motherboard (BIOS version 0704), SATA driver installed (disks configured as AHCI)
  • AMD Phenom II x4 945 processor (stepping C2)
  • G.Skill DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz
  • Sapphire Radeon HD4670 Ultimate 512MB video card
  • one PATA DVD burner
  • one SATA Blu-Ray burner
  • 3 SATA II (3MB/s) disks
  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits

The CIS 4 installer (freshly downloaded from the official site) failed with an “invalid image” message. Running it in XP compatibility was the only option (suggested by the compatibility troubleshooter). After installation, instant bluescreen (no time to read the crash message, no minidump, immediate restart) upon reboot, and no W7 repair option was effective, had to do a full reinstall.

I haven’t tried CIS 3 yet, feeling a bit wary…

you did download the 64 bit version right?

I checked three times, and I re-downloaded it as a precaution. FYI, I got the same error message with the web installer, which I tried before I put the standalone installer in compatibility mode.
